Abou That Stinking Smell !!!!!
When i first got my car i started getting this rotten egg smell. Everytime i rev it high.. not that high.. not even past 4 1/2. But just accelerate quick. Everyone said that it had to do with new car oil and being new car. And i was like. ok.. now at 14,000 miles. IT STILL STINKS!!!! This bad smell, like humid, wet, rotten egg or something i dont even know. Wat is this SMELL!!!!!!?????? Any one getting it?

What did the service manager say it could be?
Used to be the rotten egg smell was caused by the catalytic converter. They have improved them, but it is possiblethat there is something wrong with the converter and it is causing this.

I remember that I had that smell when I floored it.
It only happened like twice. This was back when my baby was still a little tyke.
I guess she had some gas from her first couple meals...
I read somewhere here that it was probably the Catalytic Converter that wasnt' broken in yet and wasn't converting the sulfur well or something like that.
Ever since the second time it happened, it has never happened again.
My baby farts no more.

It's the catalytic converter. Some will tell you it's normal and due to the type of gas. My other car is a 2003 Toyota 4Runner. Toyota issued a TSB to replace the catalytic converters and reprogram the computer to reduce the smell. It's doesn't eliminate it, but it was really really bad on the 4Runner. I think most modern cars have some sulphur smell, especially if you floor it.

Mobil, and at every subsequent oil change (ie: 3k) add a bottle of Techron. (don't add Techron less than every 3,000 miles)
not sure what's offered in the east coast, but fuels here in Michigan are pretty much junk with the exception of Mobil. Yea, they may be a few cents cheaper per gal, but you get what you pay for plus that sometimes stinky smell.

Camp, that's WAY too often to be using fuel system cleaner. I'd cut your usage down to once every 6-10k miles.
You can actually do damage to the car by doing that.

I use Chevron like 99 % of the time. Maybe once in a blue moon. But i mean BLUE moon depending were i am or if i am really low and have no other choice around at the time, i might get Shell or Amoco. But its rare.. Now i am going to ask the dealer about it. If its the catalytic converter or what. But ether way i get it most of the time. Just some stronger than others. I will find out. I just got my A1 service due again. So i will ask them then. But i am not going in till next weekend. Or i might just do it this weekend. I will let you guys find out.

acura8ly,
thanks and allow me to clarify. I've got a bimmer which I change my oil every 10k and use one bottle of of Techron.
I totally agee with you that a bottle every 3k is too much.
I wish Chevron was offered in MI.

Maybe in Michigan, but not in Virginia, North Carolina, or South Carolina.
Either your fuel is contaminated or it has additives to which your converter is
reacting. I have noticed no unusual odors coming from my exhaust from day one, and this is something I do check from time to time.

Also not in Florida. I only use Amoco. I had the smell on my '04 once, but never on my '05.

I do have the rotten egg smell from my ventilation system sometimes. AC is the factor on my case. If I use less AC, I will get less bad smell next time I drive the car... Or I have to vent for a while without using AC prior to shut off my engine.
I remember RR ever posted the similar reply before... Not sure...
Sometimes, if the plastic bags adhere to the bottom of my car, I will smell dioxin-like on my car...

Not a Blowhole
The cause is sulfur in the catalytic converters. US fuel is high in sulfur compared to the rest of the industrialized world. The cats build up a fair amount, and when one gets on the engine a bit, the cats heat up to the point where they will burn off the sulfur, producing the smell. It is completel;y normal, and every car does it, assuming their cats are still functioning properly.
Haven't you ever seen a car going flat out, and there seems to be tan smoke/particles coming out of the exhaust? This is especially true for folks who do not get on their cars much - they accumulate a lot of crud in the cats, and when they gun it on the rare occasion that they actually accelerate onto a highwat rather than stopping dead, they finally get the cat temps high enough to burn off the residue.
Clear now?
