A1 Oil Change Price
About a week ago, my dad brought his 05 TL in for its first oil change. The screen said that it needed the "A1 Service." He wasn't too pleased with the service that he got from the dealership.
1. He had a 9 AM appt. and didnt get the car back until 2 PM (and no, they didnt give him a loaner)
2. The bill was for $75!!!! The recipt said that they rotated the tires, topped off the fluids, and changed the oil. But $75!?!?! That seems a little steep. Is this how much an A1 service should cost??
Thanks for any input.
P.S. Our dealership is Acura of Peabody and for my TSX, the first oil change only cost $31. I think he got screwed but I could be wrong...?

Not really out of line when you add the tire rotation to the oil change. A little more than I would pay for rotating the tires, but it was done at the same place and eliminated the need to go to two different places and wait twice for things to be done. I do my own oil change and tire rotation because of this, but not everyone can or wants to do this.
Figure the average oil change is $25-30, and maybe another $30-35 for tire rotation, it sounds fair to me.
Just be sure to watch them like a hawk when the B service comes around, but this dealer seems fair. Many people report $125 and up for A1 service, and $175 for B service, which is just the same as an A1 but has more things to be looked at, all of which should be included in any normal oil change anyway.

not sure about the TL price or even taking the car in for factory service but i always pick up coupons in mail which cost $12 bucks .....yes. only 12 for oil change and with free tire rotation and 12 point inspection. now u figure 6 quarts of mobil one synthetic for $30 tops with acura/honda oil filter should be less than $50 bucks total.....and remember this is synthetic oil not crappy conventional.

I just had my oil changed and tires rotated today; I payed $61.65 @ the dealership. I wasn't going to let them rotate(for $27), since I'm putting my rims on next month, but I let them anyway and the car is driving much better, so I guess it's worth it.

I also live here in MA. I go to Clair in Norwood and that was the same price. But they also include a wash and vac. Of course there is all that brake checking, fluid topping, bolt torquing that adds a few more $$ here or there. But in the end the $75 was the same I had also.

Most fluids don't need topping off - the brake fluid is self-contained, power steering pump fluid is also self-contained. The only thing I can think of is possibly the windshield wiper spray which costs something like $1.29 at a Kragen's.

I personally think the service is a waste of money. I did the oil change and tire rotation myself and it cost me $12 and about 1 1/2 one Saturday afternoon. Took my family out to dinner with what I saved.

If they can get away with charging them why give it away for free?

If the car is operating as designed it should not need any adjustments, fluid fills, torquing, belt replacement etc. until about 60K miles or so.... Paying more than $30 for an oil change/inspection is purely a marketing/money making scheme by the dealer. Even with a tire rotation......
I change my own in the driveway, rotate my own tires, check for any signs of leaks etc. and I'm done in 30 min without any adverse affects to my vehicle....
Don't go to the dealer unless for warranty work or known mechanical failure... Having worked in a dealer service and parts dept for over 8 years, this "type" of service is a key money maker for the dealer and completely unnecessary for the consumer (in most curcumstances....)
