99 6 speed VS. 04 6sp TL with mods

so im in the 75 south exit heading to 285 east and there is this silver 3rd gen with blacked out tails and headlights and a custom tag that launched when we got on the highway.

(he was revving his engine before we got onto 75 trying to bait me)

so i played a little catch up and caught him right when we got into 285.

we both made our way to the furthest two passing lanes and lined up. right when i got next to him i heard him throw it in third.

i did the same

accelerated a bit so that he can get in my lane (car was in front of him)

we both gunned it and it was even till the end of 3rd (all 2 seconds of 3rd)

i shifted into 4th "goddamn fast" according to my girlfriend and we kept pulling

he was behind me and i could see him falling behind me more and more so i shut it down when i was about 2 cars ahead of him. (110 ish)

i couldve kept pulling but i think i made my point.

It's a dog from a standstill tho. I think a 3g would pull on me from a stop. No doubt I will win from a roll. But I really don't roll race unless provoked.

Hey Phee, I still have those CL-S mufflers laying around. If I remember I'll bring them to you next time I'm up there.

+1 for that. Id like to know what is worth taking out.

I took the backseats out of my TL-S and all it is, is foam with some metal wiring... couldn't have weighed more than 20 pounds for the both of them.

The 3rd gen TL wheels (5 spoke 17x8) are lighter than the 2nd gen TL-s wheels?

The 03 TL-s wheels come on my car from the factory and are only 6.5" wide, I thought for sure the 3rd gen TL wheels were heavier.

I don't think think. He is faster because he has taken weight out of the car.
Actually, I believe the 2nd gen TL is a little bit lighter from the factory, so it may be slightly quicker.

Weight reduction, in a sense, is just like adding power. Less weight with the same power is in essence the same as same weight more power (within reason obviously).

I believe a big boon for the 2g is also being able to bolt on headers.

bolt on heders are good for a 15-20hp gain. its less for the 6 speeds unfortunately.

15-20whp is a big deal on a N/A car! I can imagine the headers shift your curve a little to the right as well depending on design.

You should go to the local landfill or drag strip and hop on the scales

^^ Indeed.

Phee you are probably as light if not lighter than my Accord coupe. I weighed in @3150 (without driver) with a little less than 1/2 tank. I have no weight reduction at all. I will weigh when I go back to the track without my spare tire and jack and nothing lying around in the car (like always) and see what my race-ready weight is

That's very close to what my car weighs. Without spare/jack, about 1/3 tank, full interior (blah bose and heated seats) it comes out to 3090 without me in it. What sucks is that I bring that up to 3350

With cars around 3000 lbs, you can normally translate every 100lbs in weight reduction to roughly .10 in the 1/4 mile. Launching and hooking also become easier, and you're less likely to break drivetrain parts! Good stuff

Also for a little extra at the track (5-10hp), remove your power steering belt. It's not so fun to drive like that, but every little bit counts...

Phee is right. You can't get headers but you can get the PreCat deletes which delete the primary cats. Similar to 'test pipes' on the G35/350z.
