One of my friends has a 97 M3 w/ intake. I have a 2003 Tl type s w/ K&N and sythetic oil. He wants to put 100 bucs on a 1/4 mile race. Should i take the bet?

I beat my friends 98 M3 4-door AUTO w/ AC shnitzer exhaust in my TL-S.

If the M3 is AUTO, you will win.
If the M3 is MANUAL, I probably would NOT race unless you have i/h/e......

His is auto, and so is mine. Yeah the vsa switch will kill if you have it on....but the stability control works awesome in autocross. Im going to race..and hopefully get my 10 hours labor in..lol

I'd race him even if it was a manual, i've beaten manual's, not by much, from that gen of m3 before I will do it again, although I would probably want to do best out of three.

Stock TL's vs E36 M3 AT? So long as his friend can differentiate the brake pedal from that of the gas pedal (and has timing quicker than that of a tree sloth), he'll win.

He's definitely beating you if he has a Manual(assuming he's a decent driver). You have a 50/50 chance against an AUTO, but do not take the race up over 100mph, if so the AUTO M3 will have the advantage due to better gearing.

I beat the m3 but we didnt race for money. It was about a full length at the quarter mile. Also has anyone seen the new Infinity m45? Well one of my buddies got one of these and i raced him...beat him throught first and second gear..but third and the last 100 yards of the race the v8 torque and gearing killed me and after 3 races..my bumper was at his front tire.

I think the M45 has 335 hp and is almost a second quicker to 60mph.... 5.2? anyone know the stats?

M45 is not that fast at all. The best times I've ever seen were 5.3 sec 0-60 mph and 13.8/103 mph 1/4 mile. It was sower than BMW 545 5.2 and 13.7/104 mph accordingly. Since them 545 has been discontinue for the lack of performance and replaced by a 550.

The last MT ran 14.3@98 in the M45.


I havent seen a 100+ trap for the M45 since it came into production. The magazine's before that were saying 102 mph traps, reality seems to be different.


As for the M3, that can with an auto is a high 14 second car, why anything thinks it was out of his league is beyond logic.

The 545i wasnt discontinued for a lack of performance. Rather the M5's bump up to 500hp created a 175hp hole between it and the next E60 (545i). The 360hp 4.8L V8 was a natural progression (and at some point, a 270-290hp 3.5L 6 cylinder may appear as well). That said, I've driven the E60 545i (BMW event) and it's NOT lacking in performance.

And, if the M45's VK45DE is a n y t h i n g like the VQ35DE then it'll become quicker once broken in. That said, most mag numbers show many Nissans to be slower than real world (read: track) evidence reveals.

Alright, I had a '99 Alpina M3 Biturbo before I bought my '03 TL-S.....now unless he was racing one of those, which I doubt he was, he should have had no problems beating a stock M3 throughout the gears - auto or manual.....

out of the box 5.2-5.3 and 13.8 is pretty quick in my book..

even so how is a 03 TLs winning in 1st and 2nd gear not to mention he should be more than a car length behind or serveral car lengths behind if a TLs is running low to mid 14s...that is unless hes buddy is

Im not bsn ne 1. I thought i would have been stomped also but once the car changed into 3rd the m45 started gaining. If we could download videos i would rerace and put it on here

You will be crushed. I raced my friends M3 messing around, he has very little mods but can drive very well. Kept it in 5th gear and he beat me by like 2 cars.

Another report. One of my friends mom has a Dodge Charger R/T. Has the hemi 5.7. Raced it and lost by half car length. Was very surprised. This is also with me using lucas octane boost, and taking some weight out of the car. Spare tire and jack. etc. Only problem is i left the ac on and this race was between a 1/4 and 1/8 mile. He jumped me first gear and then after that it was a slow gain to the finish. Wasnt enough to pull it out but im proud of the car. Maybe if i turned the ac off and made it a true 1/4 mile race i might have pulled it off.
Now lets hear all of your "bs" accusations.

I agree, and turbonater is the Mario Andretti of tl's and makes no mistakes. By the way octane boost works if you get the good brand. Read the forums youll figure it out. My car ran about 4 mph faster with it in. That makes a difference in a close race.

I don't know anything about the old M3s, but I do know that a M45 will destroy a TL-S and so will a Hemi Charger. A/C compressor clutches out at WOT so it doesn't matter. Octane boost doesn't make any difference. TL is designed to run at 91 octane.

When you actually have visual evidence that the two would destroy a tl then you can talk. I have no reason to lie about it. Both were within a car length. 6ft gap tops. Ive got about 10 witnesses to it, that were there. If you want to talk to them let me know ill give you their email. Believe me before racing two high output v8s i was pretty set on getting murdered..so unless there was something wrong with both cars the story is how it went.

but I have read the M45 going 1/4 high 13s....13.7....

I had a little run with my buddy's 99 M3 w/ i/h/e and summer tires (it was also lowered) in my 6MT TL w/ shitty EL42's and CAI and I could toy with him. If it was a full on race, I would've taken him, by at least a few car lengths. And this is basically what he said to me.

His M3 has MT as well.

Only thing is, we are at high altitude and our engines might be affected differently - I haven't been to the track here, but he has. His best was 15 flat... can't remember the trap speed. We're at 5k-6k ft.

I dunno how a stock 2G TL-S would do, seeing how I was about dead even with my brother's modded TL-S.

BTW, why do you guys like to raise the BS flag so much? If the kid's lying, then that's just sad. For me, unless it's something totally ridiculous, I have no reason not to believe him.
