Is 80k miles too much for a used TL? Interested in buying...
Hey whats going on you guys, I am in the market for a TL, (used..i'm not rich like you guys), anyhow I found in the local autotrader a white tl with 80k miles and it's fully loaded. Its for I think 21, and you know..navigation is a plus. I figure 80 is kinda pushing it, but honestly, will i have any problems?
Also, my first choices would be blue, black, and then white.. and with white i would like black leather, is white aight?
ha, alrite thanks!!

This is how I value a car...
The TL is probably good for 150K miles... more or less
80K has used up more than half its value... so it should be $15K to $18K according to how good it looks...
But, check out KBB or something and see what they say

KBB says dealer asking price should be around $24k!!! Ridiculous.
Trade-in value, in excellent condition, is only $16.5k ($15.2k in good condition).
Private seller value (again in excellent) is $20.2k.
All these are for KC, so they'll be different for wherever you are. Personally, I'd pay no more than $18k, and I'd bet you can get them there (or close).

Not too many miles. Condition and price are what matter.
I bought my '97 with just a hair under 80,000 and its now at 145,000 without any major problems.

I agree with most here. $21K is a nice price, but 80K miles is way too much.
A little too risky for me. I would say keep looking. Good luck with it.
BTW, white with parchment is luxurious.

While the engine may be good for 200K+, the transmission is probably good for about 100-150K, especially under city driving. So pay careful attention to how the vehicle has been treated, and how frequently the transmission has been serviced. Don't know about price.

80k isn't too much for these cars. I would say that is just broken in. 21k for 80k of miles and a 2 year old car if its a 2004 isn't too bad at all when you consider Acura Resale value and they are 33-34k new.
Have it checked out by a Acura dealer and buy it if its all good.

80K miles is NOTHING on an Acura or Honda. I drive 110 miles roundtrip, 5 days a week, 98% highway and that is precisely why I bought the TL. In three years I'll have 90K on it and expect to go another 90K with few problems.
I had an accord with 190K and it was stilling running great when I sold it.

80k miles is nothing!!!!!! (on an Acura)
$21k......not to sure, The TL does seem to have a higher resale value than most cars I have owned so maybe, I would try to talk him down offer $18k and play from there.
I have seen 04 TL's for sale with like 25k miles and they are asking $29k

21K is too much and not even the whole pictue. The things you will replace your first few months of ownership due to that high mileage:
1) Tires - $1000
2) Brakes - $300
3) Battery - $100
4) Belts - $800
5) Filters, Engine, Cabin - $120 - Dealer charges
6) Transmission fluid change - $70
7) Oil change - $30
8) Coolant change and flush - $60
Those are just ballparks, I am sure you could get them cheaper, but you get the idea. Some used cars may be reliable, but you do have to take care of the maintenance stuff. 80-100K seems to be around the "bend over and take this" range for big maintanance items. There are a lot of decent new cars in the 21K range and will not give you surprises. And remember the above is only good as long as you don't get any actual problems. I would avoid that car like the plague.

The dealers usually use this as their guide, (despite what they say)
This will at least give you an idea, and if you haven't bought yet, it probably is worth getting a short term subscription.

For like 24K you'll find a good preown TL at any Acura Dealership with between 28k-34K and they will neg the price since the new 07 are soon to be here. 80k warranty is up and you you'll have to flip the bill for that big major service, I think at 90k and it's about $1200.00.

Yes in my opinion 80k miles is way too much for a used car and $21k is way too much for a car that has over 50k miles. I think that you should shop around a little more before you even consider getting that. If you put another $10k or so you could get one new w/navi.

Recommended service for your 2005 Acura TL:
Replace spark plugs
Replace timing belt and inspect water pump: If you drive regularly in very high temperatures (over 110°F, 43°C), or in very low temperatures (under-20°F, 29°C), replace every 60,000 miles# (U.S.)/100,000 km (Canada)
Inspect valve clearance
#: See information on maintenance and emissions warranty in the first column on page 198.

That has got to be one of the funniest things I have read in a while. If you think the 3G TL has a timing chain, and you don't have to change anything...
I see an expensive trip to the dealer in your future, while riding in the passenger side of a tow truck.

i got my 04 6mt/navi with 50k on it (lady drove it to work 60 mi each way) for 22250 since the car was in excellent shape (only needs rear brake pads soon) and it had been maintained well and taken care of, there are no issues that need to be adressed so if i were you i wouldnt be very worried about the miles if the car has been well maintained, but i dont think id personally pay over 19500. For me, i already know that id be putting an assload of miles on the car so i didnt want to spend an extra 4-5000 to get one with half the miles mine does. In the first 5 days of driving the car i put 1100 miles on it.
