70,000 miles on TLS, should throttle body be cleaned?
If it was dirty would the computer throw a fault code out? Just wondering if the sluggish power up to 3,500 RPM's may have to do with the throttle body/plate being dirty?

Cleaning it wouldn't hurt, but I don't know if it'll solve your problem(s).

when i installed a p2r TB spacer, there was some black gunk in the throttle body. i cleaned it out very well until it shined again. i had 40k on the clock.
when i took off the p2r spacer about 500 miles later, it was still very clean. idk if this helps you or not, but regardless...i had some crap built up in there at 40k miles. like bearcat said, idk if it'll solve your problems.

Cleaning it wont hurt anything but there is no way that a throttle body with a slight film of dirt/oil in it would cause power loss. Your problem lies elsewhere. Also just an FYI you can clean the throttle body all you want but thats just a small portion of the dirt as the entire inside of your intake manifold would have that same thing. I personlly would leave it alone unless your going to do the entire intake manifold. This is normal even low mileage cars start to get this build up.
Even though TL's dont require a tune up until 100K you can start with the basic things. Changing the plugs in the TL is super easy and relatively inexpensive. Put in a new air filter. Some of the more critical sensors on the TL that can be a possibility would be 02 sensors, IAT sensor etc etc. Also be sure to use only quality premium fuels preferrably 93 octane.
Hope this helps.

THANKS!
I change the air filter every 15,000 miles but that power loss just keeps happening. The TLS should pull hard when the pedal is floored but it doesn't. Dealer says the car runs fine, I guess I have to live with it.

Try resetting the ecu. There are threads on the gas pedal method or just disconnect the battery for a while.
The only way to clean the throttle body is to spray TB cleaner on a rag and wipe down the inner surface of the TB. Do not spray cleaner on the TB itself. According to the service manual, this will leave none of the pivot point lubricant inside the TB.
I would definitely look at changing your plugs or running some fuel injector cleaner...I use Redline SI-1.
