6MT transmission problems
Yesterday I had my car serviced (A1) at my local dealer. I also asked that they look at the clutch pedal as it seems to be making a popping noise as I mash it and when I release it. It also made a bump/vibration at the same time that the pop occurs. Once about 1/4 of the way from the top and agian about 1/4 from the bottom. This problem is worse when the car is hot.
I thought that the clutch pedal piviot point might need lube. Well I guess I'm wrong since the dealer says that the transmission input shaft seal has been leaking oil onto the clutch assyembly.
My dealer has ordered parts; clutch, preasure plate, flywheel, throwout bearing, and of course a seal.
Has anyone else ever had this problem?
The dealer said that I could drive the car normally for now and that they will provide me a rental on the day that the car is going to be repaired.

Sounds like a new one for the 6MT crowd as I've never read anything pertaining to the MT's....just the 5AT's.
Well, there's a rotten apple in every bunch - unfortunately it was yours. Hopefully, this problem won't turn into something bigger for the rest of us.
At least they're giving you a rental and it sounds like they can do the repair in a short amount of time.

I get a some kind of click but not popping noise. Also not half but all the way down and when released. But have not gotten any vibrations. Keep us posted on what they did exactly. I'm almost due for B service and will talk to service at that time.
i had the same thing happen on a 4 speed manual 1977 trans am TA /6.6 (Pontiac) A real long time ago, but when I changed my (intake jets) . (this was a carb>) newbie's don't reply just read and think! about it!!! (before you were born) to a more strip / street size (larger) gas squirt, the thing just went to a normal type of clutch reaction and it became a very easy take off with no, jerk and no stall between gear shifts and man would it hall when you used the old right foot ... I hope this wakes up the Acura techs that read and follow advice. just my 34k advice! thanks for the opportunity
i would think maybe the thingy by wire right foot,, may be have like an at best an (hold on to your dreams),,, A intel 386 like,,,, at best?...... nothing better than pure mechanic,s when it comes to instant action dont think (throttle by wire) works when you push the peddely thing to the metallly thing to like the floor. i would think that the 04 TL is to a e- machine on a celerion, with no upgrades. and thats my 34k. acura techs read, read, and think! we want a 2006 with no questions and AWD (300+ hp, no crappy excuces

Well! Donte, you remember that this war of 5AT vs. 6MT is worthless without THOSE pics.

I just wonder how the tech at the dealership found this problem. If any Acura techs out there know could you please pass it along.
Did the tech have to loosen the transmission from the engine to see the leak?
If so how many times can the transmission be removed and reinstalled on the engine before things start getting screwed up? Like bolts and threads.

Can happen...
This can happen pretty easily. All it really takes is for the sealing surface to get knicked during assembly or a small flaw in the machined surface of the shaft - much less likely however.
There are a lot of ways they can inspect the clutch. There might be an inspection plate, or they could be using a fiber optic scope to be able to inspect up inside there. I have the manual but didn't have a chance to take a close look at the clutch replacement procedure.

I'll save a place next to mine at the dealer for a 6mt while my recall is being done..

Hysterical, I love it. Not that I like to seeANYONE having problems, but the smug inconsiderate postings of the MT'ers to people with 5AT's with issues was pretty crappy, and while I generally do not believe in bad behavior following bad behavior, you posted in a manner that makes a good point.

Well, I dropped off my TL at the dealer today for the transmission seal/clutch repairs. They kept the car all day (I was provided a SORRY POS Tuarus) and was only able to take the car apart. The front sub-frame and transmission were out of the car this afternoon when I returned to see if the car was ready. The tech said that he should have clutch and flywheel assy out before he left today. He said that the seal was in fact ok....the transmission breather was spraying oil on the clutch. Sooo... I'm now driving a rental Ram 2500. It drives much better than the Tuarus! Hopefully I'll be back in my TL by Tues.

I had that clicking popping noise in my previous Type R and Acura told me to change the whole clutching system which cost me over $1500 bucks not including tax. I thought they were too lazy to really find out what was wrong with the car but told me to change it so it will fix the problem. That kinda sucks tho!!! The problem was fixed and a 1 1/2yr later the same problem came back. I went back to Acura and too bad the job they did was good for 1yr warranty only. So I was really pissed off and I had to fork out $900 bucks to fix the bloody problem AGAIN. So I had enough of it and traded it for my TL now. GOodluck and hope it does not act up again!!!!
