I'm looking to buy a 6MT TL as my next car this weekend and have a few options I'm considering.
1. 2007 NBP TL-S w/ 77k mi. Being sold from an "auto club" that takes trade ins and fixes up tuner cars to sell them. Went to see this one earlier this week and saw it in it's original condition before it got fixed up. It's stock and has some dings, dents and scratches but nothing too major and most of that will be fixed up when I purchase. Interior is solid and no cracked dash. Asking price is $15,955 negotiable.

2. 2007 Silver TL-S w/ 121k mi. Being sold from the 2nd owner privately. Car is stock, in pretty good condition and the current owner is selling because he has 5 cars and decided to get rid of the TL-S. He said the head gasket gave out in October and decided to fix up a bunch of stuff since he was planning on keeping it. Heads were resurfaced, new valve train, gaskets, OEM timing belt, OEM water pump, thermostat, knock sensors and connectors, water temp sensor, OEM clutch kit, OEM pressure plate, OEM rear hydraulic motor mount, OEM right upper mount, radiator and hoses, and new valve cover gasket costing him $4,300. All with a 24k/24 month warranty. Cosmetically it's okay, a few dents and the dash is cracked. Asking $11,800 OBO.

3. 2005 TL Base w/ 120k mi. 1 owner and he took pretty good care of it. Went to look at this one already and we agreed on $6k if I decide to buy it. I'm tempted to get this one because it would save me some money for touch ups, maintenance and possibly mods if I choose to go that route but I would prefer to have a bone stock TL-S. No photos of this one..
As far as the first two go, what would be a good price to consider buying these at? I feel they're slightly overpriced but I know the 6MT tend to go for more on average. Also, should I be worried about all the repairs and maintenance done on #2, or should I look as that as a good thing because it's saving me future maintenance costs? And if I decide to go with the base TL is it worth fixing up/modding? Don't currently have any experience in mods but would be willing to learn and have friends that could help and have the tools I would need.
I bought mine brand new 15 years ago for $34,000. People still offer to buy it even though it has 306K miles! Probably because its the rarest combo out there and has a 6MT.
In fact, he has a birthday coming up next week, May 1st. Happy 15th!

Of the three, I'd go for the '05 TL Base based on price/value. If the second owner would take 8-9k or so and has all maintenance records, that might be worth considering. TL-S 6MT are super rare.
Both Type-S are beat to shit and need a lot of cosmetic surgery. Those guys are selling at pristine prices, which both are far from it... You can buy mine for $15,000! Comes with everything I own for it.
This is why I laugh all the time about people asking $14k-$15k for their beat up TL, and their reason? "oh its MT TL-S...… If you asking for $14k the car over all condition better be worth $14k.
Don't let the Type S badge makes you making mistake, I would pick a clean 04-06 MT over any beat up TL-S MT/AT any day.
Get the base 6 speed. I think the type S's in general are way overpriced. Every one I've looked at was at least twice the cost of a base. Don't get me wrong, a type S is better/faster than the base, but not enough to warrant costing twice as much.
Yeah the TL-S are way over priced y'all are right. Gonna see if I can get the privately owned TL-S for 8-9k. He has all documentation for the repairs and maintenance he did in October so it would save me money on that front. Otherwise I'll go with the base TL. I'll post what I get on Sunday
#1 can eat a dick.
If I was buying another one I'd go for #2 but try to get a better deal for it. It's a much rarer car, fun to drive, and has a back up camera.
first two are over priced and would tell sellers to eat a dick, with beat up cars for $15k
there are better cars(different brands other than Acura) out there for $15k.
x2
OP if your budget is 15k why are you even entertaining a TL? I loved my TL just as much as everyone else on here but no way in hell I'm dropping 15k on a 3rd gen TL in 2019.

Budget is 10-12k. Wasn't planning on dropping 15k I'm confident I could talk them down. I came from an 03 CL-S and just really like Acura. Checked out #2 today and it was a POS. Found one more option 07 TL-S manual in white with 120k for $10k and am gonna check it out tomorrow.
As for other options what do you suggest? Considered a used Speed3 but hard to find one that's not modded.

Those are sweet but I need a manual man. I'm one of "those guys" 😁 Just purchased the one I found for 10k dude could tell I really wanted it so I couldn't talk him down but it's super clean! Thanks for the input guys I'm glad I didn't go with the other options

Pics! I just got an 04 Base 6MT with 139k for 4500 with 2 sets of wheels/tires. I love it so far except the torque steer is heinous. Did the slave cup check valve delete, need to do timing belt and clutch soon. Hope you enjoy your new car!

Beautiful!
Love a WDP TL!
Good deal too, IMO!
Keep us posted, she looks super clean from what I can tell!
Thank you I appreciate it! I thought it was a good deal. The only problem is the dash is cracked and don’t really like the tan interior. A few nicks in the leather. Just found a small rust bubble on left rear wheel well. Need to find how to fix that. And the wheels are 19s I didn’t expect that to induce torque steer though, unless you’re saying maybe because they are wider?. The overall outer diameter of stock wheels and tires and these Konig wheels with low profile tires is the same. They measure 25 inches from top to bottom. I know because I wanted to make sure if I get lowering springs I don’t want my tires rubbing. Looking into Tein S techs.

Speed3 sucks. My old roommate had one, it would torque steer really hard out of the blue to one side or the other, so you always felt like you were going to crash but didn't know in which direction.

Weird... My car doesn't really torque steer at all, unless the road is really really bad. Even on snow tires.
Lol no ones TL has torque steer? Maybe my alignment is out of whack. I haven’t got an alignment since I got the car. Maybe I should go get that done, but wanted to wait til I put the lowering springs on.
Unless you have never driven a FWD car before, I would say the TL generally doesn't have much torque steer. All what you are used to I guess. I have been driving FWD for 20+ years and this car by far has the least amount of torque steer out of all of them yet has the most HP/TQ as well.
No, I have only driven FWD cars my whole life, except in the case of a truck. So I know how they handle, but say when I really get on the throttle to pull into a 50 mph road, and say there’s high spots in the road or I have my wheel turned slightly the car pulls hard, hard! Like my one arm holding the wheel almost isn’t enough to keep it straight. Maybe the car is out of alignment, which I can tell you is a possibility because the steering wheel is not straight, it is turned slightly to the left when I’m going straight. I’d say about 10-20 degrees. And it tends to follow bumps in the road even under “normal” throttle. It feels like I’m on train tracks or something it’ll go to the left and then to the right, it’s kind of hard to control sometimes. I’m guessing alignment?
And I read a thread on here about 3G TL torque steer, I guess there’s quite a few that do consider it to be “bad” torque steer.
One of the reasons why I shopped for a 2006 is I had heard Acura had done a few things to dramatically lessen the torque steer (if I recall correctly, there were a few tweaks to the suspension geometry as well as the throttle-by-wire programming).
some cosmetic issues but nothing major!
hopefully the maintenance history is decent,
some pretty expensive mods on it (aspec kit plus the atlp catback)
how's the interior holding up?
its probably a previous member's vehicle.

Interior is great. Missing the back left headrest for some reason but I'm getting that shipped to me and it should arrive sometime next week.
That's what I was thinking too. Whoever owned it took good care of it.
