I got a used ’04 and wonder how if leather boot should be some how attached to the shifter. Currently leather boot is not attached to anything and I can easily push it down and will see a metal rod of the shifter. Should it be like this or I am missing so sort of a clip or something?

 

Mine has a plastic ring at the top which, when pulled up tight, clicks into the bottom of the shifter knob... It does "un-clip" itself quite a bit though.... I have re-attached it at least 20 times in the past 3 months.

 

This is what I though – perhaps the previous owner had the same problem and just got rid of it. It looks like once you attach it, there is not a lot of room for leather to move along the stick
