6mt 04 nwp vs newer v6 corolla

So the other night I was going for a cruise with my girl and two buddies. I had a ton of stuff in my car (misc. stuff - a leather coat, cd cases, all my school books, etc...) so I threw that in the trunk, along with my amps and speakers. Anyway, I came to a red light and didnt even notice the Corolla on the side of me ... that is until the light went green and I noticed he was speeding ahead of me. At this time I was still in first gear floored it, I caught up to him and was a little ahead of him and i slowed down(I dont remember what gear I was in) so im in the right lane and hes in the left.. I remember waiting in third for a whille with my rpms up... I knew we were going to race but this guy floored it and I didn't react until he was passing me with momentum. I got to 5th gear and was starting to catch him but he slowed down. I wanted to run em again but this guy would not line up with me, all in all not to bad if I wouldnt have had all that weight I think I would have caught him even with him having the jump.

Hmm.. Now that you mention it, it was a corolla I believe. I got the two confused, thought the corolla was the upscale one, guess I dont know my toyotas . Anyway, yah it was the v6 with the dual exhaust.

Don't race with the weight of three extra people in your car if your opponent is alone. That said, if you can drive your 6MT fairly well, you should have a slight edge. Get some mods and you'll have no problem beating the "anti sport sedan" Camry.

Well in reality the TL 6spd runs the same 1/4 mile times as the new Camry 3.5L V6. I have seen 14.3@97MPH stock for the camry. Basically its a drivers race.

Which means that the TL 5AT is no match for the 3.5L-V6 Camry in a drag race on the streets.

It also helps if your gas tank is as empty as possible. A full gas tank weighs like a ton, literally.

^ Gas is lighter than water... So go pee before you race. Take a dump, too, to save an extra pound.

A ton is 2,000 lbs, a full tank of gas in a TL weighs a little over 100 lbs.

I have never seen 14.2 for a Camry but I have seen 14.3...close enough anyways...and I think OP's TL is 6MT and that's also a 14.3s car stock.

In reality the BEST a stock camry can pull off is a 14.3 from what I have heard and seen. Average is 14.7 for the camry. You cannot disengage TCS on the camry. Basically you need a perfect launch with no wheelspin in order to pull of the 14.3. Not easy work when you have all that torque to work with.
