6-Speed Brake Life

I took my car in for new tires and the told me that my front brakes are down to 30% with 47k miles on the car.

I am a pretty conservative driver and many of those 47k miles are highway.

Does that seen right? I know they are the Brembos but historically in cars with manual transnissions I get 90k out of fronts and even more on the rears.

Just wondering what others are seeing.

You're right in there with the Brembos. I have an '04 manual and I switch my pads to Rotex Kevlar Golds in the spring of last year. I have around 23,000 miles on them now. I also still have my original OEM pads in my garage. I removed them at 25,000 miles and my best guess is that there was maybe another 30,000+ miles left in them.

I am also careful with my car and tend to get very good life out of my brakes and crazy long life from my clutches.

Since they're a pad that generates lots of dust, it doesn't surprise me that they would wear faster- where do you think all the dust comes from?

I'm looking for at least 50k out of mine. I'm a pretty easy driver. I don't expect to go to 125k like I did on my Accord 5MT, though.

I recently changed out the front brake pads at 29k miles with 15% of the pads remaining. They were squeeling pretty loud so i decided to swap them out.

When the pads get below 50% of their limit, they do not shed heat as well, leading to poor braking. The actual pad thickness and condition must be considered when talking about miles or % remaining. Techs make wild visual guesses.
Go too far down and hurt the caliper pistons, maybe the master cylinder and trash the rotors.
Most pads for the TL have a 2mm min. thickness- thats pad material only, and at 3mm they are considered ready for change immediatly

My brakes lasted around 25k? I can't remember, but they wore out pretty quick.
