When I drive my wife 04Tl 5AT (1000 miles, Build # 7636), I usually use the SS feature. When in this mode, the transmission automatically shifts from 1st to 2nd without me moving the stick. It happens regardless of how hard I am accelerating. I can't believe this is normal.
Has anyone else had this "problem"? Any ideas?

Also, I've read in past threads an issue regarding a noise (vibration, rattle, etc) coming from the steering wheel or in that general area. Has anyone who has had this issue, had it resolved?

The TL's transmission is designed to auto shift from 1 to 2 and downwards from 2 to 1 when coming to a stop. Its in the manual. If you have rattles, best to take it to your dealer.

 

If you wanted such precise control of the shifts (i.e. low speed shifts from 1st to 2nd), you should have considered the six speed. The auto shift from 1 to 2 is great, and I wouldn't want it any other way. Plus, it should greatly prolong the life of your tranny.

 

To 00TLOwner: Thanks for your reply. I guess I should have read the manual more closely. The info is certainly in there. I mistakenly assumed it should run like the Tiptronic we have where 1st is 1st until you move the selector. It would seem though that the TL should be able to shift at a speed higher than 10MPH though.

To Acuraddict: The car is really my wife's car and that's the reason it is not a 6MT. I drove the 6MT and I really loved it. This car is great as well but I would have selected the manual for me alone.
