5AT Normal or Not?

5AT Normal or Not?
I've recently noticed that when I shift from park to drive or reverse to drive the transmission engages with a "two-step" feeling. Within a second or so from shifting into drive, the trans engages then fully engages. You actually feel the transition between the two. Make sense to anyone??
Curious if this is a normal characteristic of the Honda 5AT?
Or, is this "service dept" trip #1 material?? 650 miles and all is well, I hope...
Thanks

I guess lots of AUTO tranny engagement will be like this, especially FWD vehicles. I did ask this question in my first visit to the dealer. The service manager told me it's normal for most of Honda car. It's just a matter of time, the FWD cars will have this issue.
Don't know. But my 94Legend has it since it built.
Hope some one could explain, thanks.

Yep thats how it feels.

My 5ATs have a delay between lever movement and the transmission dropping into gear. That's in both my TL and my Odyssey.
I think what's happening inside the trans is that fluid is being brought up to pressure and that takes a noticable amount of time.

Thanks guys,
Not a big deal for me but if/when the wife drives it I could easily expect her "feeling" the initial engagement, apply gas and then have the trans slip/jerk into drive...
Probably something I will mention to the service folks, just to have it documented.
