3rd party inspection opinion

Yes I took delivery already, but I still intend to have it looked over real well
I have an independent ASE certified mechanic I like & trust.

Would I be better off to have "my guy" give the new to me but used Type-S the close bumper to bumper inspection or the local Acura Dealership in your opinions?

I'd go to an Acura dealer and have them do it. They will charge you more but they will know the ins and outs of the car and what to specifically look for.

I was kind of leaning that way, but wanted to see what opinions might be on the subject After checking out the Chicagoland Acura Dealership thread I think my local dealer will be the route I go.

Thanks,

Go with both if you have the option...wouldn't hurt to get the opinion of your personal mechanic. He might spot something the dealership wouldn't. It's happened to me a couple of times.

I personally have never had a used vehicle I purchased inspected. For one, I don't really trust mechanics (especially independent ones), and honestly I don't see what they can tell me that I cant find myself when looking the car over or driving it.
The important things to me are all things I can figure out on my own such as if its had body work or been repainted, VIN label search, and anything else to eliminate if its been in an accident. Then during the drive I just want to make sure everything works correctly such as the transmission and engine. Things like tires and brakes are all items anyone can inspect.
Either way if you still want the inspection and aren't comfortable looking things over yourself I would personally go to Acura. You want someone looking the car over that has worked on that exact car day in and day out. Not some corner place that works on a Ford Escort here and there.
Congrats on the purchase!!!

The only problem I would have going to the Acura dealer is I do not trust them at all. I went in for the recall on my previous '04 TL and told me I needed $3500 worth of work done when it turned out I didn't need have the stuff that said. For example, they told me my power steering pump was leaking but it turned out that fluid from the power steering hose they replaced got around the pump and they didn't clean it up and said it was a leak. And again when I took my BMW to the dealership to have it looked over and the recall done I was told it needed over $4000 in work done when I turned out I only needed about $1000 done. I just hate and don't trust dealers because I can't be confident that what I am being told is true.

James doesn't need any 3rd party inspection because most of the car he bought if not all never reach over 50k miles.
