3rd Generation TL Manual Transmission
MY first post: Actually own a 98 tl3.2 top of line made in J beauty which would be perfect if it had a 5 or more speed manual so I could drive it economically if I wanted to. Dealers and Fanciers think my car underpowered. I think it's way way overpowered for my way of driving. I got acuraa ( my 4th) for quiet, comfort, great handling and great resale value Now if Could get a 4 cyl turbo'ed engine in there and get 40 mpg when I want to or have the big push when I need it....
so I am looking for a third gen tl group who know it there really is a std transmission availabe somewhere....
Also Have a successful up and coming kid in san diego who deserves to get into an Acura-, hatchback or suv mini as he's in the restaurant and wine business

So you're looking for a 3G TL with a manual? Good luck, they're difficult to find used, trust me. I looked for months before I found mine. I suggest going to cars.com and using the advanced search function to look for only MT TLs in your area. That's how I found mine.

^^^ Yes. He is correct. But you must be willing to drive a distance or even fly to where the car is. In July I am going to buy an 07-08 WDP TL with ebony/grey leather. If I have to fly somewhere, I will make it my vacation for the summer. I hope its in a nice area so we can have fun.

I believe it was 1 in 20 (or 1 in 25?) that Acura put out as manual for the 3rd gen. Not too many that's for sure. I spent a year looking locally and only ever had five to choose from in all that time. I wanted nav but when I found one with the color I wanted and in good shape I said to hell with the nav and picked it up The manual is a different animal in the 3rd gen. Very touchy. It takes getting used to thats for sure. But once you've got it down it's very nice. Very refined and capable compared to the numerous other manuals I've driven.
As was said, check Cars.com or Autotrader.com with the advanced preferences selected for manual. Keep in mind, the only manuals for 2007 and 2008 are the TL-S. For 2004-2006 there wasn't a TL-S though I prefer to think of the manuals in those years as the "unofficial or pre Type-S" since they come with a few bells and whistles that are a step up from base auto's such as Brembo 4-piston brakes and a stiffer suspension.

Actually even lower than that, Wikipedia says only 1-40 for 04-06. So if you divide that out by the total number of TLs sold between 04-06 (approx. 227,000) then that means that only about 5600 04-06 TLs came with the 6MT.
Type-S 6MTs are probably even rarer. Acura sold about 107,000 TLs for 07-08. As far as I know, no one knows how many of those were Type-S models, but I'm guessing that 1 in every 10 was a Type-S. So assuming around 10,000 Type-S models were made and assuming maybe 1 in 4 were equipped with the 6MT (again a guess, a rather optimistic guess at that), then that means approximately 2500 TLs were equipped with the 6MT for 07-08 (again, very rough guess).
So assuming my guess on the TL-S production numbers and the 6MT take rate were somewhat close, then that means that only about 7,000-8,000 TLs were equipped with the 6MT from 04-08, and who knows how many of them are still on the road.
So needless to say, 6MT TLs are very rare.

^ Wow, even lower than I thought. That was about the ratio I typically encountered come to think of it. When I was searching on autotrader or KSL.com (local advertisement site) there was always 100-120 TL's with only 1-3 being manual. Thing is, Acura was probably wise in keeping it that low. Most of the manuals around here tend to sit for a long time before selling, even if they're in good shape or well priced. A lot of people that drive these cars don't want to deal with a manual. I talked the dealer down on the price with the premise that it was manual and they had it on the lot for nearly three months before they sold it.

When I was looking for mine I actually emailed my local Acura dealer and had them keep an eye out for what I was looking for, the one I got actually came in about a week later, not exactly what I originally wanted but I fell in love with this car, 6MT of course, and you can't have mine either!

Had mine shipped from a Porsche dealership in Texas. Saw it on Autotrader, and kept looking at it every day for a week. Thats how I knew it was the one. Feel good to have a car not many other people have. I instinctively look at other TL's front calipers to see if MT.....

I flew down to Dallas TX to buy my 07 TLS 6mt (im from Chicago area). Even though it could be a gamble if you dont know for 100% sure if its in the condition you want, but it sure makes for a damn fun trip!! Buy a one way plane ticket then drive home, it was amazingly fun!

Thank god I found my WDP/ 6MT with NAVI. I was looking for a few months, though I wanted Tan interior but the Grey def hit the spot.

When I had purchased my '05 new, I made sure it was the 6MT version with ebony interior. Now that I have the '07 S, I made sure it was the same combo as my last one, but with navi as an added bonus. You take a gamble when you're buying used and if it's not close by for you to do inspections, you'd have to trust what's presented to you in pictures. Luckily for me, that gamble paid off and I flew to NYC to go get mine and got to experience my first Nor'easter on the way back!

When I bought mine, I had the sales manager do a walk around the car with a technician. They noted every little problem, and advised me of the details. They really stepped up to the plate after I received the car as well, as one of the wheels were bent. They footed the $140 repair bill. Luckily they were a reputable dealer.

I own one... original owner. An '04 manual with Nav in pristine condition. Garage kept, never seen the snow, everything works. And it ain't for sale. At least not yet.

not too many 6MTs in the socal area in general because you'd be crazy driving one in LA traffic. Other places around the country i wouldnt be surprised if it was a little more common. But at the same time one can find far more G37 6MT sedans on the market. Yeah yeah, it's RWD and a "sportier car"

Interesting perspective I see here...I drove a 6 MT 350Z and a 5 MT Nissan Frontier for 5 years...I was sick and tired of shifting...have a 5 AT 08 TL and wouldn't trade it for a 6 MT ever.

Yeah I wouldn't use the word rare for manual TL
To me it was the opposite. When I was searching I found 6 04-05 TL's I was interested in all in the city. Out of the 6 TL's 4 were manual. At the end I went with the Auto which was a better choice for me at this point in my life.

I would use the word rare. I have had a few manual Type S's and each and everyone required a flight to go get it. I have been to MCI, ATL, and DAL to get my manual Type S's. A common car would be available in the numbers in any given area, a rare one would require in depth searching followed by out Of state traveling to get.
I have never searched for an older 04-06 so I can't comment on those, but the S's are very difficult to come by....in other words, rare :-)
