3rd gen transmission oil change instructions
3rd gen transmission oil change instructions
Hi guys,
I'm having a bit of difficulty finding some instructions i've seen before in regards to changing the transmission fluid on a 3g TL. Something to do with the 3 times drain and fill procedure?
Any help for a newbie?
THank you

its a 3x3 change because one drain doesnt get all of the fluid out. What you do is drain out the old fluid, then put in three quarts of new fluid, drive around and cycle through all the gears, then drain the old fluid again and pour in 3 new quarts. Do this one more time and you would've done the 3x3 and essentially replaced most of the old tranny fluid ... btw this is for the auto tranny. you dont specify which tranny u have if its manual its a simple drain and refill i believe

There are a few DIYs in the Service Department under section "C". Here is one:

Here is the Acura service bulletin referring to their updated 3x3 procedure:

get 9 quarts and do a 3x3. i did it with my cousin on a lift and it was a simple process. the drain bolt is under the plastic cover next to the jpipe.
1) drain the fluid. put the bolt back on then fill in 3 quarts. do a small drive going through all gears.
2) drain again and fill another 3 quarts, drive again.
3) drain again and fill another 3 quarts.
easy process for the most part, very easy if you can get the car on a lift.

I wouldnt mix two kinds of ATF, esp with redline.
the point of the 3x3 is that the ATF fluid gets changed up in intervals. Theres a chart in one of the threads here that shows the percentage of new ATF after each new ATF quart. The first flush takes out about 30% of the old fluid only.
