Question Which 3rd Gen TL is the fastest? (year wise)

Which 3rd Gen Acura TL is the fastest year? I'm just looking to see if one year specifically is faster than the rest. I'm only interested in a normal automatic TL. I had an 04 TL, and loved it! Specs say the 04 car has 270 HP. I've read though that after 04 the way horsepower was determined was changed and the 258 HP for the 06 is equivalent to the 270 in the 04. Is there a difference? I want the fastest TL I can get with it still holding its class.

PS. If anyone has a 3rd gen pearl white TL they want to sell around the Minnesota area let me know!

04-08 base TL's all have the same engine with 258hp. Don't worry about the different numbers you hear because 270hp is based on an old standard.
That being said, the 07-08 base TL does have an updated transmission with MARGINALLY different gear ratios. It's not something most people will notice though.

just dont expect an 08 base TL to be any faster than your 04 TL.

If you really want more power then get a type S

There is no difference. All 04-08 Base TL's are rated @258 HP. The SAE Rating system changed in 2006. This will help, A bit technical but a good informative read https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/sae-new-horsepower-rating-system-3g-garage-a083-589568/

however if you look at part numbers between couple engine parts in 04-06 base tl and 07-08 base TL, some are marginally different. I'm sure its probably some differences to accommodate the refreshed transmission, but doesnt affect power in any way

the easiest way to find out which car is faster is to take the weight and divide it by HP use the same standard measure for each car. it is 258hp for base and 286 for Type S

generally speaking fastest to slowest acceleration

6MT type S
6mt/5at Type S
5at base

for entry level luxury, they do OK. the problem is Honda really has not been keeping up in the power department since the TL type S was introduced nearly 14 years ago...

I know 04-08 base motors all had the same HP, but if someone wanted to get technical, if there was a 04 or 05 3.5L Type S it may have been rated at 300hp using the old method :-)

I think that was honda's goal for the type S, but the new standard put the new engine short of 300hp

It actually kind of was. The J35A8 (Type-S engine) was rated at 300hp under the old standard when it debuted in the 2005 RL.

Yes, but not because anything changed with the motor, but because the way HP is measured was changed. 04-08 3.2 motors all have the same hp. Call it 270 or 258 whatever makes no difference.
