3rd gear grind?

I know I'm sucking real bad.
I have been grinding that 3rd gear. For the life of me, I just can't get into that 3rd gear!!
I either can't get in there, so it grinds when I get in.
I guess my short arm is just spoiled.....this stick just seems to travel so far.

This may not totally be your fault. Go to problems and fixes and do a search for the 3rd gear issues we are having. I would look for you but I just dont have time atm....

I know what you mean. I have the short shifter and I still grind 3rd on occasion. I've got 3 qts of GMSFM waiting to go in. I hope it helps.

Short throw does not fix the 3rd gear grind. GMSFM does. I used to have the grind. As soon as i put the GM stuff in, the grind went away and never came back(as long as you dont have the short shift kit). Just installed the short throw this weekend (ITL helped me install it) and the 3rd gear has started fighting with me again. ITL installed the corsasport bushing on his car this weekend also. He already had the short shift kit installed. He said the bushings makes if feel much much better and fixed the smoothness of shifts and the fighting of the 3rd gear. My next purchase will be the bushings.

The hard shift into third is not a good thing and is probably going to cause additional problems later in the transmissions life. As the weather cools it will likely occur more frequently. When you get a chance, change the fluid and make the problem shift go away. You'll be much happier and wish you did it sooner.

Have you decided what brand/type of fluid you are going to use? GMSFM? Also let us know your results after the change.

GMSFM since everyone seems to be having success with it. How much is it?

It wasn't cheap. It think about $11 or $12 a quart (you need 3) but don't remember exactly, it was a while ago. But well worth it since the problem is gone. GM makes more than a couple of types and one that seems to look/sound similar to the GMSFM. Make sure you get the correct one.

I talked to my dealership for the 2nd time about this.

I had them install the new Acura Transmission fluid. This DOES seem to help the 3rd gear problems. Shifting does seem smoother, it didnt TOTALLY get rid of it but its only happened once since I got it put in. I also have the short shifter installed.

Generally with any SS, it makes shifting a bit rougher.

My dealership installed it for free so maybe your local one will do the same. I think my dealership was interested in the results so thats why they did it.

Where would you get the fluid changed? At the dealership?
Last time I had a constant gear problem, a honda's tsb fixed it.
