3rd brake light

Has anyone had the 3rd brake light issue where it kind of is drooping on one side so the break light shines on your back window at night?

I have my car in the shop today for this and the tech is saying everything is normal and other TL do it. Ummmm, I don't think it's normal to have red light shine all over my rear windows so that I can't see out of it.

If you have had the problem and have had it fixed can you let me know what they did so I can tell this dork where to go.

Here is a possible fix. I haven't tried it yet myself.

Never heard of this, sounds like something that can be fixed without the dealer. I have a different method that I just thought of. If you'd like PM.

Thanks, the dealer said the clips were set right but maybe they need to check again.

there are 4 securing points to the cover. 2 are push in and the other two slide to get out. Be careful and you can remove and then re-set them. I removed mine to clean (dusty inside) and found it to be very tight, but not impossible . Don't force anything too hard and it should seat perfectly when you replace it. The rubber outside seal touches the glass on all sides.

good luck

I called the dealer back and asked them to check it again as having the break light shine on the back window is not normal and needs to be fixed. He said he would have the tech look at it again. I go to pick up my car, after the serv. dept. closed, and guess what?....it still is not right and all the receipt said was that it is within spec. WTF.

I can see some light when the 3rd light is lit, but it's definately not normal to be drooping to one side. Because the light is fairly bright, you should be able to see some red light spill from around it when it's lit, but not shine on the glass so much that you can't see, even w/ the auto-dimming rear view mirror.

This has been a common problem for some TLers...

Besides the link above, it's better to check that pic, too.
