3G values when the 4G TL is released??
I'm in the market for a 06-07 low mileage TL. I'm not in any hurry and just wanted to know what you guys think will happen with the 3G prices when the 09 is released. These dealers are asking so much for a good used TL when you could buy a brand new 08 for a few $K more.
Any thoughts on when the 09 will hit the dealers?
This is a great website and I can't wait to get a TL. My first post, thanks for any input.

The 3G prices will inevitably take a hit once the 4G is released as is always the case.
Its also possible that demand for the 3G will continue if the 4G disappoints all our expectations, here's hoping that Acura don't drop the ball

It was also a big concern for me when I bought my 06 TL last year.
I was thinking 2002-2003 2G TL now will sell for about 14-17K may be, which I think is still pretty good, considering the dramatic model change etc for the 3G.
Even look at this car: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/car/543306862.html
(this is exceptionally low mileage)
Did I make a fair comparison between 2g and 3g & 3g and 4g, as far as concerning depreciation?

Also, the prices some of these guys quote are too good to be true. When I bought my 05 I had guys claiming stupid low prices. You can either believe them to be true, or believe them not to be. Frankly I think most of them are either full of shit, or they live in an area where these cars dont move. Chicago isn't one of those places.
The reason I bought a brand new 2005 TL Aspec/Navi was because the 2004 used models were within $1k of a new one, all because of the extended warranty mark up.

I think when guys are buying new TL's in the $31-$32K range....a 06 w/ average miles should be around 25K-26K. I know nada and kbb has them listed for more. But I'm looking at the numbers. If I pay 28K-30K like most people are asking, I should just get a brand new one. However, I just don't like the hit of driving a new car off the lot.
Handy911...If you don't mind me asking....can you give me the details of your 06 purchase last yr????

For the OP - Based on my calculations, the 2004 TL will be worth between $16K and $17K at the end of 2008 (when the 2009 models offically come out). A year later, this same car should be worth between $12K and $13K. Another year later, maybe $10K (as stated in this post).

If you add those two initial costs together, you can see that I paid $10,800 more than you did BUT...... The car is currently worth $20K (AT/NAVI w/45K miles) so... at the end of your four year lease you have NADA, ZIP, SQUAT, etc Whereas I have $10K in equity I could use to put down on the next car. Or I can drive my car for FREE for over three more years (at which time it "may" be only worth $10K). So, in the end, you have a lease and have the chance to move to another car at the end of your lease but all buyers have those same options AT AMY TIME (not just end of lease) and those same buyers HAVE EQUITY in their cars and .... In short, unless you can write off 100% of your lease costs to YOUR OWN business, a lease is NOT a smart decision IMHO.

I understand where youre coming from and I did more then enough research to know that financing was not for me.

I would probably lease a Mercedez or Audi. But, TL is not something I would lease, since 2nd hand selling price will hold up better than most cars.
Tho, people say that after 3-4 years, cars will eventually have more problems and it eventually costs the owner more too.
So, it depends on so many factors, whether or not you should lease.

Typically the used market takes a hit for 6mo or so when a new body style is released. Prices recover somewhat after the rush of early adopters runs out. However you're always going to get less for a car that isn't the current body style.
So I you're looking to pick up a used 3g, I'd wait until 2-3 mo after the 4g is released. Probably going to be about as depressed as it gets at that point.

Mine is NBP. I was offered to get a green color for $1K cheaper. It's certified by dealer. You should probably expect 27-28K retail or 25-26 private party.
I've heard people say that when you buy a new car, drive out of the dealer, you've basically lost 2K right there for depreciation. But still, I wasn't aware that so many people can get a new one for 31-32K. I thought it was more like 33-34K.
Ahh who cares, I am happy with the car, and plan to keep it for a long time anyways.
