I kinda feel bad for all the heat he's getting. He's just stuck in 1960s Kansas and doesn't know... I feel like the dogpile is getting a bit rough.

I think the guy was genuinely trying to be helpful with that thread...
just turns out he's preaching to the choir and bragging about having 5" hard.
Then he didn't like it when we all didn't suck it.

But the fundamental counter point of "are you really saving money by offsetting MPG with additional parts purchases" is sound. I hadn't considered it initially, but it was spot on. That poster was pretty smart.
Rather than saying, "yeah, that's a consideration; YMMV" he decided to hold the hard line and now he's getting the hard line.

If I were that guy I would have appreciated that response too, but that sounds too sound and logical .
