Taco, I gave a similar piece of feedback to my Acura dealer when they gave me a list of dishonest recommendations. They also said they would call me back, but never did.

Honestly, I can't really blame the brand for this (I can blame the brand for a lot of other shit though). At the end of the day, this is just people. Maybe this behavior is motivated by their salary/commission structure. Or maybe they're just dickheads. Either way, these people often move around from dealership to dealership - so if they're not doing it at Acura, they're doing it elsewhere. I often dream of how rich I would be if I opened up an honest dealership or auto service business. Too bad I would get fed up with it after probably a year or two.

Somebody posted that trailer earlier, can't remember where. Definitely a badass project. I understand that it's low-budget, but some things are just ridick..

Also taco.. you might consider that the recall specifies that they drain the system out first from the return line, not just res. If they didn't, it would be a violation of proper recall protocol. You should also be aware that even if they did do this and replaced the fluid that was drained, it could still be nearly as dark as it was before.

So.. one... if they didn't do it properly, that's fraud and a liability.. and deux, if they did do it properly.. you can't expect them to do multiple drains and fills on their dime. Add'l time nor fluid is reimbursed by corporate because they were already in there.

found my leak; exactly where majofo said it would be.
took off the crank pulley and found a bunch of oil

in true spaceman fashion; I fucked something up tho.

I decided to take off the accessory pulley's this time.
if ya'll recall, i ddint change out the accessory pulley's because I couldnt get them off.
found a six sided 14mm and got to work on one of them. but since my ratchet is pretty big, I didnt notice that it would hit the frame when I was backing out the bolt.
now the ratchet is there permanently. it's stuck between a rock and a hard place.....

I'll have to loosen the front and rear mounts to see if the engine has enough play to get the ratchet out of there.

It's pretty crazy if you watch that trailer...like first person COD but live and real people will decent special effects. Gory as fk.

Meet was fantastic! Got some rolling shots, hung with a bunch of old friends, made some new ones, had some beers, perfect weather.

I'm a bit late on the congrats train, but... congrats on the new job J!

Ryan and I turned $75 into many, many calories on Friday evening in prep for Turducken:

The 3G Ramblings & General Discussion Thread (Part 2)-0wvobfj.jpg

The party was a great time, tons of food and all of it was quality. We spent yesterday on the couch... it's not often that either of us consumes a few thousand calories of just pork products, cheese and beer and we needed a bit of a breather.

And now it's a rainy/cold Monday. Blech. Probably time to throw the all-seasons on the 128i, we're expecting a bit of snow/slush this Friday.

Any ideas for Acura/TL-related Christmas gifts? He wants a remote starter but those are $$$ for a good one. Can't really swing a $400 gift.

Thanks Jake. Looks like a great time!

All weather mats and/or trunk tray for the TL? Those are a must, especially in those conditions.

Mojo, no, I didn't end up paying the dealer to do it. I ended up just doing it myself.

Also, today has turned out to be a shitty start to the week. I tried fixing my Nav yesterday, by using one of those lens cleaning DVDs. After multiple tries, nothing changed. Dammit. Unfortunately for me, I was an idiot and left the keys in the car, on II, only to come into the garage this morning and finding a dead battery. Fuuuuuuuu.

Vlad, I know dealerships are greasy as hell. A friend of mine is the General manager of a huge Ford dealership here in town. After switching dealerships and dealership companies several times over, just chasing the dollar. I can't believe the type of people involved in sales- he was the sales manager at one point at one of the Honda dealers here, and he said of the dozen guys working for him, 10 of them had criminal records, lol. There was also a porn star that worked as a sales lady, and a stripper too. Then there was the chick that was nailed by everyone in the dealership, male and female lol. Guys would just pass around photos of themselves plowing her. She didn't seem to care.

And the greasy tactics all these dealers put to use is mind boggling. I hate dealerships with a passion. If it wasn't for the recall, I wouldn't have even bothered going in.

I'd try to get a flat head between the ratchet and the socket. Then drive it off the socket, use a hammer on the end of the flathead if you need to.

if I can hit the switch to go forward on the ratchet, i could just tighten the bolt.

I'll see if the flat head can hit the switch

its too tight to fit the flat head inbetween the socket and ratchet....

Can you actually fix the DVD drive, or are you just yanking my chain? I'm not buying a new one... They're like $3500. I figure sending it to Alpine is probably my cheapest bet, but even that's gonna cost me about $600. Sigh.

If it's the nav / drive unit, that's an easy fix if you're up for it.

Looking for more info...

I'll be pulling the drive unit tonight and will open it up to clean the lens by hand. I have a feeling that the DVD lens cleaning disc didn't do much.

I could hear the unit spinning the disc, so I don't think the drive motor is the problem.

I have very faint scratches on my disc and I'm wondering if it's the drive that caused them or if the previous owner did. They are super fine scratches though- to me it seems crazy that the drive wouldn't be able to read the disc, as I've seen some rough discs get played through all kinds of drives without issues. I don't even think I can get a photo of them, they're so fine.

Which leads me back to thinking the lens is dirty.

Is there a way to adjust something in the drive to keep the disc from scratching? No idea how Alpine does that. From what I've read, other members had a clear ring form on their discs from the scratching, mine definitely doesn't have that.

It's not a lens issue. It's more than likely a board issue. Take it apart, check the board connections for cracks on the substrate or loose connections. If they all look good it's probably the main board that drives the lens. Find the P/N and order it online.

Hmmm where could I order the parts? It's not like Honda sells the internal drive gizmos separately. Where would I find the part numbers?

Computer/electrical knowledge > me.

its not honda, its alpine.

take apart the drive.
if you see what majofo stated (cracks in board/fried capacitors/loose connections), replace board by finding part number on board.
it'll say Part #: askdhagf12934283947

then google said part #
and it will give you a place to buy

It's not even alpine. I'm sure their shit is from an ODM. I'm 99% sure it's a generic board. It might have an Alpine OPN but below that should be the ODM PN.
