I ask if this can be done because the 2 bulbs do look similar. Just look at the 3157:








compared to our 7443:




So let's say that it isn't compatible....Can we then buy the 7443 base (It's only $.59 ea!) and then remove the LED assembly off a 3157? (Base shown at the BOTTOM of this page)

This whole idea is so I can use this new switchback bulb which only comes as a 1157 or a 3157 only:
