30,000 Miles
So the 04 TL is comming up on 30K Miles and there has never been a service light on yet, except oil changes. My mom was at the dealer and they told her it might have been reset or something but she needs to get maintenance done and tried to charge her $597 for tune up crap ahahahaha i can't stop laughing at this list it is like check fluids and stuff. So should there be a light on yet? or what should be done. And when should the air filter be replaced?
Thanks!
Thanks!

One on the right for me
my dealer (only go there for warranty work) is so programed into the scheduled maintenance time intervals they were shocked that i didnt make my 30k appt. i asked about the MID (dont go by that either) and they said it should coincide with the mileage or some shit. i laughed at them (not really) as well
an no, i never saw any light come on

i'm at 49,9xx miles and the most expensive service i had to pay for was B2 for $250. in fact, i just got my car back from A1 couple hours ago. the last service they said my brakes were 40% rear and 35% front. today i look at the sheet and it said 60% for both. wow my TL is so dope, my brakes don't get worn. instead they get better

AVB for President!
I wonder what will happen if you keep driving... Will the breaks regenerate to past 100%? :P

It all depends how much you care for your TL. The range ofcourse goes from totally anal to -its just transportation. IMHO you should go find a good independent Honda?Acura specialist. At 30K I would have the air/pollen filters replaced especially in dusty/polluted areas. Also have the ATF replaced since the AT are not the most robust units. And running some Techron fuel cleaner through will keep that system running smoothly. If the tires did not wear evenly have a 4 wheel alignment done. All good insurance. BTW hows your game? I am using the new Head Flexpoint 6 now, its awesome. Take care.

Agree with the rest of the posts...following the MID is the right thing to do, though I'd personally change the ATF much more often if you're using the Genuine Honda ATF Z-1. (every 15,000 miles or so) If you're using a syn ATF such as Amsoil Universal, I wouldn't hesitate to follow the MID recommended interval for ATF, unless of course, it starts to discolor.

Not trying to hi-jack this thread, but I am 500 miles from 30k and after reading all the threads about changing the ATF out - I am convinced I better do it. My fluid is also not pink anymore - I would say more like blood brown (like dried blood on a white shirt) - Ha! nice early AM description. Years ago on an old car - we used to be able to add tranny fluid from the actual dipstick "neck". It was a lot biger in diameter than what I think the TL is. Is it recommended to vacuum around the fill plug first before opening - I have not looked for fill plug yet, but is it designed so that it catches all the road sand and crud? Just wondering what you guys have found. And if I should be prepared to shop vac it off before opening.
I will probably just go with the Honda stuff only cause it is much easier to get and right down the street. Unless Autozone or Pep Boys etc. sell the Amsoil stuff. Hmmm...I better do the '02 TL as well. Fluid was same color as mine. I will do frequent changes if it is easy to do and I do not mess anything up.

I just took a clean rag and ran it around the fill plug before opening and then used a clean funnel before filling it up. You dont require to leave the plug open for long so I would not be too worried about dust getting into the tranny.

I'm at about 25000. I changed air filter and cabin filter at 20000 and they both needed it. Color is still good on ATF but I'm changing it anyway at 30000. Otherwise it has just been oil/rotation and I have never had any codes some up. Can't wait to see what the dealer recommends when I take it in. They quoted me 69.95 to change the ATF which seems like a great deal considering they recommend doing it three times with a short drive in between. Have I missed anything?

I called my dealer today and they want $46 for the drain and fill, which is only one drain and takes 3 quarts. That is what they were quoting you because they can't do the triple one for that price.
The triple drain and fill takes 9 quarts, and they want $135 for that one. That's because they have to drive the car after each drain, which takes a lot of their time.
You should be ok with the single drain at your mileage, unless it looks really bad. If you trust your dealer, you can leave it up to them, but get the price first for the triple drain.
