25 or older for loaner? what the

So I have to take my TL in to get some things done at the dealer I recently purchased my TL at. They need the car for an hour or more, so I kindly ask, is it possible to get a loaner? I will be dropping the car off during my lunch break. The service man over the phone asks me if I am 25 or older, I say, no (I'm 23). He says, well I'm sorry but I cannot give you a loaner since you are not 25. I say fine and that is the end of the call. I'm somewhat saddened about this, I am 23 soon to be 24, bought a 35K car from them with my own money and can't get a loaner car?! Rediculous. WHen I took my brother's TL into another dealer a year back (22 at the time) for the tranny recall, they gladly gave me a brand new 2003 TL as a loaner and even allowed me to take it to New Orleans, I was in Milwaukee, while they had the car for a week. This sucks, I have to have a coworker come with me.

It probably had something to do with their insurance agreement regarding loaners. That does suck, however. I probably would have persisted a bit more. If you bought a car from them, their should have been something they could have done. They could have sent you out for a "test drive" for an hour in an RSX or something while they worked on your car. Sorry man, I would be a bit annoyed as well.

Yes, that happened to me too at the dealership that I bought the car from. Think of it like a rental car agency -- some agencies won't rent to you if you're under 25, or if they do, they charge an "underage" premium.

Yeah but I don't agree. If your money is green enough to buy the car they should follow up with a rental.

Kinda like being old enough to go to war but not being allowed to buy a drink at a bar. Warped!

That is what I am saying. I don't even expect a brand new TL, give me an RSX, heck give me one of the old used cars, just give me something to drive back to work, and back to the dealer so I can pick up my car when its done!

Don't take that. If they won't loan you a car... have them shuttle you around! When the dealer is unable to provide me a loaner for whatever reason (not the age thing anymore), I have them shuttle my a$$ everywhere I need to go.

Not my fault they didn't get appropriate insurance coverage (at the time) or didn't have enough vehicles available.

Yup, happens to me all the time, Enterprise will rent to you if your under 21, but they charge an extra $10 a day, and you cannot rent anything more than a Focus :banghead: . I had a BIG problem with Silver Star Mercends in Thousand Oaks when I took my ML320 to get a new MAF, they told me that they'd have a loaner waiting for me, but when I get there they told me that I had to be 21! Then I asked them if they'd cover the price of a rental at enterprise, they said no, I pointed to a plaque on the wall stating that "Our goal is 100% customer satification", the SA said the plaque was a "joke" and "just there for looks". Maybe if I rolled up in a SL500 he would have changed his additude. So I ended up going to Cutter Motors in Santa Barbara, they gave me a 2002 E420 for a loaner at the age of 18, that's customer satification! I love Cutter Motors, so in a couple of years when I decide to go get an upscale BMW or Mercedes with cash, I'll be sure to go to Silver Star and tell them how much money they lost, I'm going to Cutter!

All kidding aside, make them do something for you. Next time you have to get service done requiring you to leave your car, tell them that they have to do something for you. Send you on a "test drive" with one of their used cars, shuttle you back to work and pick you up, send you a check to reimburse you for the annoyance of arranging another form of transperation. You spent a rather large sum of money for your TL. They need to do something for you. If not, tell them that you will remember that next time you go to buy a car.

My sales manager comes through! I called him and said, come on, I spent 35K and leave my 35K vehicle in your hands, you can't offer the same to me? Seems a little unfair and poor customer service. He told me to call back in 15 mins. When I did, he said he spoke with the GM and they will give me the demo car instead. Acura comes through, now I'm a happy customer
