2010 TL-SHAWD vs. Camaro Z28

MEt up with a few guys last night. Surprisingly they were pretty cool and we talked cars for a while, then decided to do a little cruising. The Z28 and I decided to run a couple times in the freeway. We went from 45-85 on an empty freeway.

I pulled a little from the start, then it was game over from there. He just pulled out and left me behind. I didnt want to go past 85 as its not worth it to get into an accident or even a ticket. It was just a friendly run.

The Z28 had headers, intake, and some pretty high lift cams. When we got back to our spot he was telling me that he was impressed that I was even able to keep up as much as I did. He was surprised at how fast the TL was and wanted me to race everyone that was there stating that I would beat everyone lol.

Earlier that night he raced a GTO and he said that I did a hell of a lot better than the GTO did. Made me feel a little better about my loss, but I need some mods for sure

I'm assuming this was the last gen Z28. FYI, the LS motors are pushrod V8s which means one cam. Cam swaps are very typical. If the Z28 had a cam, headers, intake then it had all the other more typical bolt-ons. F-bodies like this will run low low 12s at 115 to 120mph, 11s are common. Not to crush you're ego, but a roll race from 45 to 85 isn't letting a car like this stretch it's legs at all. Chances are he was possibly spinning when the race first started or he was in a taller gear to keep from spinning or give you some hope. If this Z was in the right gear and had traction, it would pull right from the start. If you would have stayed in it to 110mph or so, he be pulling major distance.

He had an LS1 in there. His car was an auto and he was in second gear when we raced, at least thats what he told me. I agree his car was fast, so there is no crushed ego here

I drove my buddies '99 Z28 the other day. It has boltons/heads/cam/3.90s/tune. Put down 380/360 (very mild cam). That thing was a beast!!!! It's 6MT with the LS6 clutch and that thing boogied. Easily lost traction from a 25-30mph punch in 2nd gear with 275s in the rear.

45-85 in his car probably would last less than 4 seconds easy.

Nice run. Glad you met some cool guys that were down to run. Honestly though, the GTO would definitely get you. MT or AT. Get it on tape!

Hi there, so have you made any mods to your TL since the Z28 experience? If yes what are they.
