2008 Type S ripoff?

Hi all. Integra owner looking to buy a 2008 Acura type S. Total newb in the TL realm. I nearly bought a black with beige interior, fully loaded automatic yesterday n a whim for $28k. Clean as all hell, no noticeable damages and only 21k miles. Although I really loved the car, I didn't end up buying it because the private owner was firm on the price and $28k seemed pretty steep. Instead I told her I'd get back to them after xmas. What do you guys think? Is this a total rip??

happy holidays!

Welcome Integurl! It sounds good, but I think $28,000 for an '08 with 21,000 miles might be high. Maybe check Cars.com and print off other '08 TL's with similar mileage. Show the owner different pricing and why the price should be lower!

Yeah I've checked kbb and cars.com too. They're all pretty much saying the range should be around $26k or under. I know it's overpriced :thumbsdow but I was hoping to see what TL-s lovers have to say about spending a little extra to have this sexy beast in their own garage.

Maybe I'm just rationalizing the price since I really need a new car (and a TL-S would be fantastic) when the semester starts mid-January and I have to give my beloved teggy to my brother.

Just do some research on the internet, take it to the owner and offer them something that's more in line. Many individuals sell their cars via the internet, so you'll be comparing "apples to apples" with your research. Maybe you can reason with them like that!

Why be bummed? Simply offer the person 26K and see what happens. If they don't accept the offer, ask them why they think the car is worth 28K and what it has that the other cars don't have.

You'll either be enlightened or you'll save 2k and get this car. I have often found that the best deal I find is not necessary the first deal. As you go through the purchasing process, you'll know a good deal when you see one.

Over-priced. If it was sitting on dealer lot, I could understand that price on the window (not necessarily what you're actually going to pay).

If he won't come down, move on and keep looking. Another deal will pop up where the price makes sense.

Agreed with others, too much, even with the miles.

I just got my certified 07 TL-S with 17,200 on it for 26,300. So my opinion is that private party should be lower than that.

awesome. glad to hear it. I think that is a much better deal. I recently picked up the same car but with 49k miles and a set of snow tires/aftermarket rims for a little less than you're paying. I think you're right on par @ 22k, go for it.

Yeah I will mod def share pix if I get it! The first time I went to check out the 07 yesterday, i had my brother test drive it to see if there was any problems (I didn't know how to drive stick). After I left, I ran straight to my friend's STI and drove that for a few hours to learn manual. I haven't test drove the TL myself but the car seems a bit bigger compared the Integra I'm used to. I'm short (5'2 lol) so hopefully the guy will a noob stick driver test drive again

There is a super low mileage Carbon Bronze Pearl TL-S that recently popped up on craigslist here near Chicago. 11,000 miles!! I assume its automatic, but probably wont see one with that low of miles again for a long time. Listed price was $28K. Description is vague and so are the pictures, but most people are clueless on craigslist anyway.

I read comments from owners of automatics that they quickly wished they had gotten manual instead. Glad I got manual then! I hope I pick up the skill quickly so I can put my new baby to it's maximum potential

Grats on the purchase! 6MT is definitely the preferred option if you can help it.

I beg to differ. I have owned my 6mt TLS for about a half a year now and I still cannot drive this damn thing smoothly lol. As much as I love the car it is getting kind of annoying to me. I have owned many manual cars and not one of them gave me driveability issues like this car. I love the car, and its nice and smooth except for getting going in first gear. Sometimes I do it perfectly smooth, and sometimes I start off and you would think im just learning to drive stick. F'ing thing haha

And dont say there could be something wrong with my car because there isnt. I have owned two 6mt manual Type S's, an 07 6mt and an 08 6mt both were very finicky.

Anyway, congrats on the purchase they are sweet cars!!! For sure get us pics asap.

You'll pick up driving a MT pretty easily as the clutch is very soft. You may want to upgrade the manual transmission fluid with the GM Synchromesh Friction Modified formula as third gear tends to pop out from time to time. I plan to do the same to my S this Spring since I'm beginning to experience it despite it shifting pretty smoothly from my drive down when I had picked it up 2 months ago.

Agree! This is the most finicky manual car I have ever driven... maybe its because I'm used to driving cable clutches and hydraulic is a whole different ballgame

I have been shopping for an 07/08 Type-S for 2 months. I have found several with low miles and that price is common. I found one with 19k miles for $26,900 but it sold very quickly. I think you could find one a little cheaper, but good luck if you want a certain color 07/08 Type-S. I look on CARS.COM and usually have to put the miles as "ALL". I have found quite a few WDP 07/08 Type-S TL's, but many are FAR AWAY, and MANY have the light colored leather. I want a WDP 07/08 Type-S with the 2 tone ebony/grey leather---Which means I might have to buy a plane ticket to get to it, and drive it home.

IF YOU LOVE the color, etc, I say GO FOR IT. But I would also offer $27k first.

For general knowledge purposes, the TL-S was going for around 31K + Tax and fees at dealers brand new because of the incentives Acura had! Even though the MSRP was 38K the cars were much cheaper! Keep this in mind when looking at these cars and thinking about the price!
