Exclamation 2008 TL vs 2008 TL-S

Hows the gas consumption for the car? because every website posts up different numbers its hard to get an accurate one. Just wondering how everyones dealing with the 3.2 L or 3.5 L engine. Considering gas prices are ridiculous. Im debating to purchase a TL very soon but i'd like to see what everyones opinions are on how expensive it is. I have to drive atleast minimum 100kms + a day. Is the Type S a big difference on gas or is it practically the same? Appreciate it guys, THANKS.

My manual TL-S with 3.5L is doing better on gas then my 4cyl 2.2 Auto (which was maintained very well...)

Are you looking at Auto or Manual?

There is not a significant difference between the two. I believe its probably one to two miles difference between city and highway driving. Personally I have a 2007 TL-S and get about 29 highway, and 19-20 city.

agreed w/ VQ.

just depends if you are content with a base TL or if you want the extra features of a TYPE-S

Right now its hard for me to find a manual type s or TL, so id probably say auto.

Theres a 2010 tsx forsale right now at 25,000 black on black leather no navi going for

the same price as a 2008 TL black on black leather auto w/ 60,000kms. these are

priced at 23,000$ and the type s with 70,000kms for 28,000$. What do you thinks a

better deal? any advice is appreciated thanks

i would def stick with a 3g tl over the 2g tsx ... so IMO the better deal is to go with the tl and obv im biased but i would say type s ... if all the services have been done the car should be fine

my biggest regret with buying my current car is not getting a manual.

if i were you, if its possible to hold off, id try to wait it out till you can find a 6MT.

I get 33-34mpg consistantly on the highway with my 08 TL-P w/Tech Pkg. I live where it's very flat on the Coastal Plain and I always use Cruise Contol when I can as this helps.

TSX 6 speed 0-60 6.8sec 1/4 mile 15.4sec.
TSX auto 0-60 7.5sec 1/4 mile 15.9sec
TSX V-6 0-60 5.8sec 1/4 mile 14.4sec
TL 6 speed 0-60 5.8sec 1/4 mile 14.6sec
TL auto 0-60 6.3sec 1/4 mile 14.8sec
TL-S 6-speed 0-60 5.5sec 1/4 mile 14.2sec
TL-L auto 0-60 5.9sec 1/4 14.4 sec

These are per different mag articles. I hope that helps. If money is a little tight the TL 6-speed is a great buy and gives close to the performance of a Type-S.

I averaged 29mpg highway on my drive home from buying my 08 TL-S 6mt. It was over a 400mile trip. I have no around town use with the car yet so cant help you there.

My previous 07 Type S auto averaged 19/20 around town. All TL's are premium burners and the differences between Type S and base are minimal at best.

if u r worried about gas, which is okay as everyone is right now, maybe u should invest in a different car. there are a lot of people who buy a car and then trade it and get a hybrid which ends up costing more than just buying a more fuel efficient car from the get go ... so if u r very worried about gas, maybe the TL is not for you ... just throwing that out there

Yeahh i hear you man.. just love the car overall. Im sticking to an acura though forsure. Supposedly the 2010 tsx gets 150 kms more then the TL which is a pretty big difference. Too bad the 2010 tsx is kinda of ugly and soft looking compared to a TL

I get around 27-28mpg hwy and 15-17mpg city w/ my '07 Type S. I do have a few performance add-ons, though. My city trips are usually under 5mi, so that may be why I have such low city MPG compared to others

2010 TSX 4 cyl, 2.4 L, Automatic (S5), Premium 21 city 30
hwy

2010 TSX 4 cyl, 2.4 L, Manual 6-spd, Premium 20 city 28
hwy

2010 TSX 6 cyl, 3.5 L, Automatic (S5), Premium 18 city 27
hwy

Comparing apples to apples engine wise, the 2010 TSX V6 sees the exact same fuel mileage as the TLS 5A/T. If comparing the TL to the 4 cyl, as both have a 18.5 capacity, the TSX will only see 89 more kms.
If fuel mileage and possibly a vehicle that doesn't require premium is your choice, better look elsewhere, as the TL certainly doesn't fit in the economy vehicle category.
Fuel mileage can make a large difference in the operating cost. When we sold our last Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 (15mpg) and purchased our 2008 knock around car (30mpg), as you can see our fuel cost was cut in have, and driving 30,000 miles per year, with todays fuel prices, the saving was @ $290 per month, or @ $3500 per year. That certainly is a lot of money. The TL is only used occassionally, but going from another Grand Cherokee (V-8) to the TL, saved about another $400 per year.

Choose wisely.

Go with the Type S. Another thing to consider is the suspension. If you are driving a lot, that might be more of a factor. 1-2 miles a gallon shouldn't be a factor.

I have a Type S, and it's a blast to drive... but it's not the smoothest car. I'm not sure I would have purchased it with a lot of driving per day.

Not to thread jack, but I'm looking at both the 2G TSX and 3G TL as well, are there any particular reasons WHY everyone is saying TL>TSX? Just looks?

More car for the money IMO.

I originally started off looking for a 2G TSX but then after a few months, thought to myself, "Why would I want to spend the same amount of money on a smaller car with a smaller motor when the TL-S comes fully loaded with more power?" The looks of the TSX isn't too bad because it has potential but the 3G TL does have it beat stock vs stock.
