Honda/Acura has joined the horsepower war!
Does this mean the TL will get a bigger engine?

how handsome I am
the next RL will have to be very nice and become a REAL flagship if the TL and accord take bumps like these. I wonder what they're going to do for it.

The only thing in my opinion is I think the 3G TL looks REALLY nice im just afraid they might mess that up. Hopefully they wont change styling too much.

I can see that happening, it's not like the Camry and the Lexus ES don't share the same egn. but thats what I liked about acura they only made the 3.2 for the TL and the 3.0 for the Honda Accord, I can't see why they even need to use that egn for the Accord, the 3.0 already hit 0-60 in 6.6 sec, they could probably drop it to 6 flat or under that with the 3.2 egn. I doubt the TL will become AWD, that would bring the TL to around 43 to 44K in price, why would anyone want to buy an RL then. if they make the TL too expensive they will take a loss in sales, most people that buy a TL buy cuz its a good bang for the buck. They should focus on the TSX becoming a BMW3, G35, BenzC, IS350....beater I bet sales would rocket for acura if they made a fast TSX with RWD and AWD for around 32k to 34K

Since just about any lower brand manufacturer cars are getting horsepower and all that, bump the new gen TL to 500 hp and AWD, and the RL to 650 hp and 700 ft-lb torque. That'll haul ass. And this will keep them at first place and looking down at Honda. For example, look at Bentley Continental GT. That thing has monstrous power and extremely quiet. Acura RL should be doing like that.

Like I said I doubt they will use the 3.5 for the new accord, they didn't even want to use the RDX egn in the new CR-V to compete with Rav4 and other SUV's in its class, but we'll see!

Yes, it dosnt necessarily mean they will keep the TL n just change their suspension n hp... As they did FMC on a integra n came out with the RSX.. no ??
soo with the TL, they'll replace it n might come out with Advanced Sport Car or Advanced Sedan (acura.com)

I too hope they don't mess up the design of the 3G TL. It's design is timeless IMO.

They won't even put a V8 in the RL, why would they make a riper Accord with a 3.5

i will have to say TL will HAVE to be AWD...
look at the competition..
3-series, G-sedan, etc etc
unless the next TSX replaces TL.. which i doubt as TL is a legend to Acura's come back..
RL will definitely have more power.. and i'd say.. V8.. to compete with the M, 5-series, etc..
but u know what guys...
if they don't know where the TL would good..
the match up might be..
TSX: 3-Series, IS, G-Sedan
TL: 5-Series, M-Sedan, GS
RL: 7-Series, LS
but thats really unlikely...

For Acura to stay relevant the new TL needs to be 300+ HP and either RWD or AWD. More likely SH-AWD. The TL is Acura's bread and butter. The RL is only my guess as to what they'll do.

Acura is starting to slip and needs to stay competitive. They've learned this lesson before. TL has saved the brand after they screwed up by canning the Legend. They have traditionally lagged in the HP wars. Doesn't seem to be their focus. I'd rather trade for efficiency anyways. They don't need to go overkill, let the other guys do it. What they need to do to stay competitive is simple:
make a sportier RSX
face-lift the front of both those SUVs!!
offer an optional ~250hp V6 on the TSX (S-type?)
offer an optional 300hp SH-AWD S-type TL
offer an RL that is much more luxurious (a la LS460 except more sporty) further upscale with a V8 at least 350hp and SH-AWD at a 60K pricetag.
Most important but the easiest thing for good carmakers to screw-up these days.....make everything GOOD LOOKING!!! Simple truth these idiots still don't know; Good looking cars sell!

vtec.net ... is this organization even recognized or acknowledged by Honda/Acura? Where does it get its info? Is such so called info based on the site admin's speculation or fanciful thinking, OR is it based on official release or corporate minutes of Honda/Acura?
For Acura to compete with Lexus, Infiniti, BMW etc., it should not sell cars that are less than 30k. Although this may hurt sales and foot traffic in show rooms, but a luxury branded car should have better appeal and customer service.

Honda/Acura need to make some bold changes to set their cars apart from the rest of the croud. I acutally steered my wife into an Altima because it was the best in the price range. It has everything my 04 TL has plus more for a whole lot less.
My lease is ending in November and I hope to get into the next gen TL. I know I got a few monts before its released. Hopefully its as good looking as the current model. I hoped it would look like the sport 4 concept shown in Tokyo last year.

I hope they introduce the next gen TL with Smart Key

AC on the seats

I am hoping for 300+ Hp, would prefer AWD over Rwd.

The legend was never canned. The RL is the legend. They just went to the letter scheme like Lexus does, Infiniti, and other luxury manufactures.

You're right, I know the RL replaced the Legend.
What I meant by canned is that they had a good thing going with the Legend. (2nd Gen.) It's what established Acura and sold really well. It made the competition actually take them seriously. (They laughed at the 1st Gen. a mocked-up Accord.) The RL saw sales plummet and it's never recovered. The present generation was supposed to fix that with no such luck. There were other mishaps like the CL and the Vigor.
It wasn't until 99 and the TL (2nd Gen.) rolled out that sales picked up and it practically saved the brand. 3rd Gen continued the trend but it's losing steam. Type-S is not as high demand as Acura would want. (Not as much as the 2nd Gen. TL)
So 2 cars have saved the brand on seperate ocassions. But rather than rely on 1 car to make the difference, why not seriously revamp all the cars in the lineup and give Lexus a real run for their money. The TL is the only car they take seriously.
Infiniti needs a similar strategy since they have a similar track record. Compare the Legend story to the Q45....sound familiar? And their bread and butter car? G35. (At least Acura is better off than them!)
