My friend has a 05 RX8 4AT with 197hp and that car is slow. I've raced it with my 2g TL-S. I would still beat him even if I give him a headstart. No Contest. From a dig, the difference is even greater since the RX8 has no torque, and the 4AT doesn't help at all lol. I've driven it myself, and seriously, I think my 1998 Camry 4-cylinder is faster off the line.

The 6AT model RX8, I think it has 212hp or something like that. I'm sure that's going to be faster than the 4AT model, but I still think your TL has no problem kicking its @$$.

Let me put it this way, at best, the 6MT RX8 with 238hp is as fast as a base TL 5AT - 14.8@96mph. In fact, in a recent Car and Driver test, the new 2009 RX8 R3 6MT goT 15.1@93mph.

I've walked all over a couple in my stock 5AT base. Should not even be a driver's race assuming you don't seriously screw up.

Is 14.8 mean 14.80? B/c 14.8 looks like a low time a TL-S 6/MT does.

NEWSFLASH!!!

14.8=14.80=14.800=14.8000=14.80000.........

And the TLS 6MT is a very low 14 second car, not a high 14 second one.

Yes thats what i mean, the TL base is a high 14sec car. The times are confusing can u plz clear somethings up. Ohh well anyways, im not to worried about a rx-8. What about 97 Camaro, i think it's a v6, b/c he got 15sec time. Does overinflating ur tires make ur times faster, cuz thier is less resistance?

Btw the chevy malibu LTZ gets the 1/4 mile in 14.6-sec @ 96.6 mph. Does the Base TL get 14.8?

Base TL 5AT in stock form is ~15 flat, give or take a couple tenths.

boo for me then the one time i lost, maybe could have been because I had an extra person in my car? iono, whatever the case may be, he started creeping ahead past 110 or 120

I wonder if he was modded? I've run two and it wasn't close. I did shut it down around 80mph so maybe it has the advantage over an auto TL at high speeds.

If you want ball busting, check out the thread with the 5AT vs 6MT in this section. It's provided me with a day's worth of entertainment.

I've heard that the RX-8 has good high-end power. The TL 5AT (and Type-S 5AT) has very tall 4th gear (and the top gear). It shifts to 4th at around 111 mph lose power. That's why the RX-8 can take you out at that speed. I've said about this over and over and over. Your main problem is the gearing. I have said this before. The TL Type-S Auto's usually hit mid to high 14's. In some case, 15 seconds.

Yes, having one extra person in your car affects acceleration too.

Really, does it? So from your posts over the last few days, we have learned that weight affects acceleration and hp affects acceleration. Are you sure you're not an engineer or rocket scientist?

I myself don't hate them. I just think they have a tough act to follow, that being the 3rd Gen RX-7; a car that the 8 cannot hold a candle to.

rx8 is slow I think. I drove the MT one and it was still slow. Its like sitting there waiting for the torque to kick in. on the positive side, handling is amazing. 50-50 weight distribution is awesom. I tihnk they should have stuck that SPEED6 engine in it and leave it rwd. 270hp with alot of torque would be awesom. posted above, "3rd Gen RX-7; a car that the 8 cannot hold a candle to."

^ the 2009 RX8's come with 6 speed manuals and automatics putting out 212-232 horses. Again, no torque though - a whopping 159

i'm sure with the newer 6MT, it'd be a much closer race, stock vs stock.

Well the weight is also alot less then the TL's. And the malibu LTZ, and camry is faster then our car so i wouldn't be surprised if some teen driving it came up and wanted to race my TL, i kno i would lose unless i had 6mt but i don't.

No man, you won't lose unless you screw up or the RX8 is modded. The RX8 6MT is a 15s car, just like a base TL 5AT is. The fastest I've seen is 14.8@96mph, while the new RX8 R3 6MT did 15.3@93mph according to Car and Driver.
