2007 TL Type S, Trans Fluid and 3-4 servos

Just bought a 2007 TL Types S for the wife's commuter. Nice car, 32k miles, well taken care of by former owner.

I've been reading here that the 3rd and 4th servos on the trans can be a problem and should be replace as PM (maybe around 50k miles?). Any info on doing this work? Are the servos external, and therefore easy to access and replace?

Also noted in a couple threads I read that everyone seems to think the Acura ATF is crap and shoud be replaced ASAP.

Has anyone tried Royal Purple ATF? I've always used Royal Purple products in my other cars and been happy, but I didn't see anyone say they had used in thier TL trans.

Thanks in advance for the help!

You can search and read for hours about the ATF, pros and cons, but in my opinion stick with the Z1 and although 100k fluid, no harm in replacement at 50-60k. Let's not forget that Acura covers the warranty on the trans so the fluid has got to last, and coverage is up to 100k on Certified cars.

The servos are external, and quite simple to replace.

Mixed opinions on the ATF.

If you want synthetic for the trans, use Amsoil or Redline D4. I'm not a fan of Z1.

Thanks for the link to that thread, guess I failed in my search

Guess I'll do those around 50k miles.

I'm probably going to go with the Redline like 'I hate cars' recommended. I like the idea of using the redline racing ATF with no friction modifiers. Anything to make it last longer!

i just changed my trans fluid @ 62K, the fluid was very black. I am not sure if that is a reason to be concerned but I plan to switch to Amsoil ATF or Redline, I had a few quarts of Z1 laying around.

Not trying to jack your thread but has anyone noticed the car has very hard upshifts ( this is before changing fluid)?

Yep the trans does shift hard. This why most switch to synthetic ATF and pressure switches. I am debating changing out the ATF to redline but it mucho expensivo.

A reman'ed factory trans is a lot more expensive. About $3,000 + the labor to install it.

I'll gladly pay the $10/quart for a quality synthetic fluid.
