Hey guys new to the forums how you guys doin?

Just a quick question. I was shopping last week and I test drove a very promising and sexy 2007 TL Type-S. I was told by the salesman that the actual horsepower rating for the car is 300. However, they report it at 286 due to some emissions law or something like that. Sound like truth or bs?

 

he's probably talking about old rating... and 286 is the new SAE rating..
so he's probably not totally lying.. but then that number is meaningless... it's 286hp

 

Here's your answer mathematically.

The '04s and '05s were rated at 270 HP/238 lb/ft of torque. The '06s and '07s are at 258/233 respectively. If we divide the TL-S's numbers by the percentage difference between the "old" and "new" ratings, we get numbers for the new TL-S that would be roughly equal to the earlier ratings which would be 299.3 HP and 261.5 lb/ft of torque.
