2007 STI frumroll
Not much of a story yet, hopefully it'll develop over time though...
So I've seen this black '07 STI around town a million times, owned by a middle aged cocky rich guy who looks like a complete d bag and drives like one too. It's completely stock. I followed him on the ramp onto the freeway the other day, but there was quite a bit of traffic. I stayed on his tail until things opened up a bit, and pulled up next to him. He looked at me like I was a fly on his shoulder that he was about to brush off. Cocky s.o.b. So I hear him downshift probably into 4th, maybe 3rd. We were going about 55-60. I dropped down into 3rd and let it ride there for a bit, maybe he was in 3rd too because both of our engines were revving pretty high. A hear/see him punch it, so a split second later I did the same. We pulled even for a bit and I stared to creep past him slightly, then instantly I hear him push in the clutch and ease off. I was just about to redline 3rd. Then he of course took the next exit. I was impressed that my '04 6mt tl completely stock with heavy 19's and a ton of junk inside started creeping on an STI like that. Hopefully I'll get another crack at this d bag. Does that sound about right that my car would pull a little on an '07 STI like that?

They only put down around 240-250'ish to the wheels stock and it's AWD so from a roll you have better chance. Of course you already know it will own you from a dig though lol.

lol I'm not saying he has a chance against the STI. No way! But from their roll race it shouldn't blow away the TL though. A 6-MT TL-S will hold it's own pretty well and hang with a stock STI...

Isn't there something different about the gear ratio's in the '07s vs any other year? It could have been that I was in 3rd and he was in 4th, maybe he would have smoked me if he was in 3rd. Either way it was a little surprising in a good way.

STi's they trap at around 102mph according to C&D. 6MT TL on the other hand traps at around 99mph. A stock TL-S 6MT will be a closer race. And a 6MT Accord V6 might even beat the STi. Of course these are just mag numbers and there are more factors when you actually race them..especially on the street.

Don't buy into all the STi hype. They are great cars with tons of potential for cheap but bone stock from a roll, they're not fast. A manual TL definately has a good chance. FWD is more efficient than RWD (small difference) and especially AWD from a roll. If they trap within a mph or two of each other, anything can happen on the street. My stock auto 06 TL beat an EVO from a roll even though it sounds hard to believe.

Race your friend if he's stock and you might be pleasantly surprised.
