2007 paint issues...

Can 07' owners give some input on any paint discoloration issues they've experienced on their new TL's please. I've noticed recently that my rear bumper and underbody molding are all slightly a shade off of the body color. At what point do I record a complaint to my dealership about this? It's not so severe that other people can notice this but I definitely can notice. I will try to take some pictures but it may not be noticeable in pictures.

No problem with my NBP color yet. I've only had it for 3 months and baby it all the time. I hope there will not be any paint discoloration.

I have noticed the same on my pearl white. The dealer said that's "normal" since the body is a different material than the bumpers. Not sure that I buy that or not. Even the people that detail my TL-S thought it was weird.

at what point you ask- if you notice it now- take it in now. don't own an 07 just chiming in. btw, how old is your 07? you didn't notice it when taking delivery?

I think thats crap .. I have had a lot of cars/trucks with metal bodies plastic bumpers in all colors that matched perfectly . I also detail cars and seldom see a mismatch like you see on the Honda products.

My daughter has a burgundy Ridgeline and there is a mismatch there too.

I have seen a couple of posts of guys getting the Dealer or Acura to repaint the bumper and other dis-colored parts so during my last oil change I asked my dealer about it and the service manager said an Acura Factory Rep would be at the dealership in a week and asked me to come back then. So a week later I met with the factory rep at the dealership. He basically told me that if the car was repainted and the new paint job was worst or develped an issue in the future it may not be covered under warranty He also pointed out to me that the $50K RL next to my $40K TL had the same issue. The color on all the plastic parts were a slightly different shade from the Metal parts. So it basically came do to live with it or risk a paint warranty issue in future, if one were to develop .

I decided to just live with it because I don't plan on keeping this car forever, like I did with my Intergra.

Nice, so the factory rep admitted that regardless of the price Acura can't match paint. I have NBP and looks fine, but I agree that on the lighter colors it's ridiculous that they don't match when they are brand new. I can/would accept fading over time (years, not days) but when new they should be perfect.

Yes, I did notice the color difference at delivery, but also noted it on the other lighter colors as well. Guess I was too giddy over the new car to overlook the color diff. And, to the casual eye, most people would not notice. Do I notice? Yes. Does it bother me? Not enough to repaint or have replaced.

There's a thread on the paint mismatch issue already, it is a known fact that the pearl colors are off. Check the threads and you'll find out all you need to know.

Check out my thread on this, just had my WDP bumper repainted. I wish I had NEVER seen this color, now I hate this car, it looks like crap. Can't believe I'm leasing a car that the panels do not even match. It would be different if it were a cheap car.

Color Mismatch

My '07 WDP looked mismatched at delivery. I pointed it out to the salesman, he admitted they are all that way. After a week, it does not really bother me that much.

The last thing I'd want is to have somebody paint over the factory paint unless it's absolutley necessary.

I notice that most honda/acura cars have mismatched paint for their cars that are built in the US or Canada. The ones built in japan do not have mismatched paint. I wonder why??

Cool Why does Acura allow this paint mismatch to continue

I don't understand why Acura allows this to continue. I would think the loss in sales or the damage to their reputation would be enough motivation for them to take the necessary corrective action.

As another member so eloquently stated before. You would think the shame of putting out a product with this type of issue alone would be enough to get it corrected. I love the the WDP TL Type-S but this issue has definitely cooled my enthusiasm. I've seen this on many different TL colors.

Picture this: You roll up in your new WDP Acura TL Type S and you show your new car to your friends or family and the first thing you hear is......

Dude... You spent 38,000 dollars on a new car with mismatched paint!

Response: Yeah, I knew about it before I bought it and bought it any way......

Good point, as a repaint won't hold up as nearly as well as the factory paint, unless you find someone that can mix the flex properly, which are few and far between. The problem is that you won't know until you drive the car for a while, and watch the stone chips grow if it’s not done properly.

Had the front bumper of our Jeep Grand Cherokee painted 15 months ago after a slight collision with a deer. They used a new cover, and the paint job looked great, but in the 15 months since it’s been done, very small stone chips (About 2 dozen) have developed, as the paint just doesn’t have the flexibility of the factory paint. Actually there wasn’t one chip in the bumper when the car was dropped off. Very poor paintwork done at the body shop, but as I have a 5-year warranty on the work, they redid the bumper 2 weeks ago.

Can't say I've ever seen a white or silver that had the bumpers match the body. The shade of the front and rear of our WDP is off, but we've lived with the condition.

With all the technology available today, I too am dumbfounded as to why Acura cannot get a better match on the colors. It looks terrible on a new vehicle, or any vehicle for that matter.

I notice this same problem when I purchased my car. When I scanned the other cars on the lot it was apparent that it has occurred to all of them. I will point one thing out though. Whenever you have a car with pearl in it there will be differences from metal to plastic materials. Pearls are extremely difficult paints to match. (and are very expensive if you ever have an accident..ask your insurance company/bodyshop about this). It seems to be a trend with all 07's that the bumpers are different from the rest of the body. As they may vary in tones it seems to be a bit more than the norm.

I have another question for you guys. Did any of you notice that your front/rear bumpers weren't aligned with the rear and front quarter panels? I had to take my TL back to get this re-aligned. This was also something I saw with most of the Brand-New TL's on the lots. Are these installers falling asleep on the new cars or something?
