2007 Acura TL Type-S manual 6-speed
A family member recently entrusted me to care for his 2007 Acura TL Type-S with manual 6-speed while he’s out of the country for a year. I’m new to the Acura enthusiast world and what makes this car unique or special. What do you like about this car and what makes it more than just some used car? Are there things I should know for taking good care of it? I have to admit, it’s been fun drive. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Keep vs. Sell?
I'm realizing that to keep this car in good working order for an entire year when it's not my primary vehicle is going to be a bit of an inconvenience. I'm questioning whether it's worth it to keep the car or sell it. It's got 150k miles and there's nothing wrong with it. Do you have any advice based on your experience with a car from this era and with 150k miles in terms of what mechanical challenges I will likely face with it in the future? Thanks.

Good question/point. Of course I'm not considering selling this car without the blessing of the owner. He has left it up to me and even provided a notarized Power of Attorney so I have the authority to sign over the title.

@zeta is correct, carbon bronze is my favorite for the 3G TL.
but I smell a fishy testing waters i know what i got vibe...
if you want to keep it, there are a billion threads on here to guide you what to expect to have to fix over time.
with that said, it likely won't leave you stranded if you just keep driving it.
whether that's worth the time and effort to you is something we can't answer but the first thing you have to decide is
whether or not you love it. Knowing it isn't yours in the first place I would venture to guess the answer is no.

I miss the days when car flippers would just say something refreshingly honest like, "I bought this car to make a profit. I didn't title it because I'm evading taxation, and thus, maximizing my profit. It also means one less owner on record. We all win"
today, its all stories about power of attorney and having a "family".

@BROlando so your bullshit meter went off too, huh...
lol yeah, the first post was all...
Ironically, OP was probably trying to be slick to hide the car flip intent.
"People don't trust car flippers because they make up stories. So in order to hide my intent, I'll make up a really see thru story. That'll get their trust."

I can understand and appreciate the skepticism. Here's the truth of the situation: my son bought this car 2 years ago and has enjoyed it. But now he is out of the country for at least a year on a job assignment. We can either let it sit until he returns, with me taking care of it, driving it regularly, it sitting outside all winter, etc. or we can sell it and he'll get another car upon his return. And he's okay if I sell it since the burden falls on me to properly care for it. And since the title is in his name, we had to make sure I had a POA in case I decided to sell it. I know this is an odd and uncommon circumstance, but it's all true.

I find it odd that you were vague about it being your son.
Not saying it ain't true. Just odd.
Funny enough both my parents drove manuals my entire childhood...and
BOTH of them are like hell to the NO would not drive manual in Miami traffic
at this stage of their lives.
I obviously emancipated once I learned this. I'll find better parents.

Understandable, at times I find the five sense simultaneous mental / physical choreographic exercise of rowing gears tiresome as well; however, personally I could never relent the addiction.

Anyways, after we managed to make it to Canada it was automatic only! I had a few hand down cars from them, but first manual I ever bought was the TL-S.
Actually, a friend of mine from Italy, she hated autos and how they move forward when you let go of the accelerator.
Also, if you live in FL, you probably noticed that many didn’t bother didn’t learn to drive at all

Same with my parents, we are from the Eastern Block, so even having a car was a privilege, choosing the color was pretty near impossible too, automatic transmission wasn’t even an option…

One of the most disappointing and pitiful sounds is a car with a loud exhaust and a basic automatic transmission. That rpm slide during upshifts is the audio equivalent of mushy chips or fries. I hear that way too often on Corolla, civics, g35-37 Infiniti and genesis coupe.
As Breezy says, if it’s a higher end car with those crisp shifts, all is good.
ok, rant over, thank you for reading.

no need for high end car, a ZF8 and Asin 8 spd found in the Lexus are shifting fast. Honestly being living in a city I don't miss my blue TL sitting in the garage during the week tho, especially that 5 oclock evening traffic.

I need to point out that I am pretty biased, because I rarely drive through stop n go traffic.

i have not noticed those, maybe Lexus owners have more sense in terms of what they put loud exhausts on. The last Lexus I was in was a 2007 LS460 and that transmission was perfect for what that car was. I never really got on it to see how hard it could shift because that car did smooth luxury so well, I didn’t feel the need to get on it.

The asin 8 spd is pretty wierd, in order for you to get the quick shifting the car has to be in sport or sport +, WOT at the redline that you find it shifting quick. if you don't shift it near redline it still tune more toward luxury part. As far as that Yatch LS460 there is no need to put it in Power mode lol.
