2007 Acura TL HID Headlight Replacement

I have not had to do it yet, but my car is approaching 10 years old and has not had to have a headlight replaced. For those that have replaced the HID headlights, what type do you get, and how much do these cost and how much is installation? Any reputable independent shop can replace these, right? I want to avoid a dealer fleecing.

Very simple? That thread makes it sounds like an onerous frustrating PITA. I'm in the city and so not have a large garage or the level of space and tools for DIY.

Is this something that a good local mechanic can do? I want to avoid being fleeced by the stealership.

Any decent mechanic should be able to replace the headlight for you; I'd pick someone who works on Hondas and Acuras.
IIRC, it does require removal of the bumper cover, which I do not look forward to doing either.

Well I apologize for not being about to deduce that from your OP. My mind reading needs a little tuning. The hardest part is getting the security Torx bit off if you're trying to do it while the headlight is still on the car. Dropping the bumper is not as hard as people put it out to be but seeing as you don't have a garage, a competent mechanic should more than be able to help you. If you were local, I'd do it for you too..

I honestly believe it is an unnecessary PITA that we have to remove bumper cover to be able to change out a simple D2S bulb on the 3G.

I had a bulb burn out on my 2G and it was simply pop the hood and bam D2S cover is right there

You do need the tamperproof Torx, which you can get a decent set for $20 or so at Lowe's, or just that one size (T25 I think) for $4-5. Removing the bumper isn't difficult, it's just annoying. After that it's pretty straight forward, but I would recommend replacing both bulbs at once. Usually when one goes, the other isn't far behind. Plus HIDs color shift and lose lumens over time as well, so a new bulb will be brighter than a bulb with even 50+ hours of use.

I didn't have a torx screwdriver, but I have a little screwdriver set...I believe I got them for my sons toys because of all the small screws to the battery case. One of the flatheads fits into the torx and remove. No need for a special screwdriver.
