2006 TL common problems/reliability

Hey guys, I'm visiting here over from the 1st gen. TSX forum and was curious to know about the reliability/common problems to be weary of for the 3rd generation TL years. (i.e. in the TSX forum the general advice seems to be stay away from the 2004 TSX due to HVAC failure and oil burning in some cars) Are there any common trends that can be said for the 3rd generation TL?

I tried to search for this using a few different key words but for some reason all my hits were extremely irrevelant...practically as if I never even searched for anything.

Nothing really catastrophic. Faded dash issues (correctable to an acceptable degree), interior rattles (fixed the couple I had on my own), poor clearcoat/overly susceptible to chips/sandblast effect (had my front end painted), easily scuffed interior trim (be careful upon ingress/egress), 3rd gear notchiness with the MT (GM Synchromesh fluid rectifies it), battery issues (dealer replaced mine for free). I have no major complaints.

Oh, forgot to add I had the drooping headliner problem. Dealer fixed that and it's been fine ever since.

-vibrations from 50-55mph at low steady rpm's.
-rattle from sub (easily fixed from dealers if you have a warranty)
-not the greatest leather (condition/clean it regularly)

A couple of recalls on the window wiper motor and power steering hose. Both fixable by dealer under recall.

For the most part the TL is solid, most problems are just nip picky. The only major thing I can think of is the dash cracking.

Go for the 6 spd and Navi if at all possible.

My '06 has been essentially worry-free. I do normal maintenance, took care of the recalls, and that's about it. I think I had two rattles addressed. I bought the car with 17 miles on it, it now has 49,000 and I've owned it just less than 3 years.

Sounds exactly like me, with 8k less miles. I'm starting to notice some transmission inconsistency? Maybe its the way I drive but I get random surges.. and RPM's holding for longer? Is this typical?

Ditto.. so you're not the only one. I'm going to do a $100 replacement of transmission sensors to fix it. Look for the thread that "i hate cars" started up about talking to his transmission guy.

I haven't noticed something like that happening on my car...I'd be interested to hear what the outcome is though.

I read all 7 pages. Very interesting info, i'll try that fix and see what the outcome is.. and then at 50k do a transmission flush as well.

Minor issues

The 04-08 TL.....pretty bullet proof. We have seen quite a few cracked dash's here in Florida. Acura has been really good abouot handling them under a goodwill situation so far. Not much else on those.

Thats kinda weird. I feel like lately when I'm on the freeway when it down shifts it kinda hesitates then shudders when I press the gas harder. I'm at about 49,550 so I'm taking it in tomorrow for some final rattle work...
Got it with 4 miles on August 2, 2006 = )

Then, by all means, get rid of it.

As for me, this car has been outstanding.

I'm noticing the same thing, and mine is an 08 TL-S with 8k miles on it.

Forgot to add I had a problem with the windows intermittently not going up. Dealer took care of it. I believe it was the regulators.

Did you try the reset procedure from the manual?

For the leather quality, from my experience, Acura has always had subpar leather. My 07 (low mileage)drivers seat is alreayd showing signs of wear. I don't have a single rattle though. Thank god because i am anal with rattles.

I bought mine in Sept 2006 also with 8 miles on the clock. It's now at 45,700 and it's been an excellent car. In the beginning I did have a persistent squeak in from the passenger front seat. No other issues.

So is this transmission issue people are having just a hit or miss kinda thing? No real rhyme or reason as to why its happening or no predilection towards a certain year?

Ditto +2...I'm actually taking mine into the Acura dealership this weekend. My trans has been acting up but what did it for me was the blinking green light (of doom) next to the 'D'. wish me luck!

Cold tire Flat-spotting. This problem exists from day one since I purchased my 2006 TL. The stock tires are pathetic and Michelin and Acura both refuse to provide any replacements. Although a couple of Acura TL TSBs explicitly mention the problem. There should be a recall on this. Such a big disappointment from Acura. Other than that I am facing some of the typical problems mentioned above;
- Faded dash
- Annoying minor rattles here and there
- Weak center console arm rest when extended - rattles big time
- The tranny pauses for a moment between 3rd and 4th gear

Other than these - it is a fun ride.
