2006 to 2007 airbox change
Well... from first hand knowledge, the air filters designated to work on 2006 models DO NOT fit 2007 model base TL's.
The 2006 and previous year 3.2 TL's have a rectangular filter and for some reason the air box has been changed for the 2007 year.
I purchased a 33-2299 model K&N filter under the assumption that it would fit perfectly, got out to the driveway, popped the hood and removed the old one only to find out that one of the airbox's corners is chopped off. Instead of four 90 degree corners, there are 3 90-degree corners and one with 2 45-degree angles.
The filter didn't fit and I wasn't about to cut it or try to force it in there.
DAMNIT! I hate being a guniea pig.

I wanted to go with the K&N. I've had them on my 3 previous vehicles and was excited to gain some fuel economy with the upgrade. I'm not foolish enough to believe that performance would be increased per the advertising, but the MPG boost was enough to get me to try.
I'm just really frustrated with Acura...
Why the hell would they change the design of the airbox on the SAME motor over ONE year? There can't be any functional enhancements associated with changing the design.
Anyone have any ideas on when K&N will offer a filter to fit the re-designed airbox for the 2007?

I saw your thread this AM, which reminded me of the same thing. I attempted to do the same replacement w/ a K & N, then contacted their engineering dept. They then took the existing part ( 3299) off their site, for the '07 TL's . This was in January, btw. Anyone have knowledge how long it takes K&N to do a re-design?

those things do give u a horsepower gain but it's too minute for anyone to feel the difference. there have been dynos (not k&n's) that show it's like around a 2-4 hp gain. better off just getting a CAI though.

I'm looking for some MPG boost and the easy nature of simply popping in a new filter.
I've considered a CAI in-depth and I just don't think it's something that I want to do. I had a horrible experience with a previous vehicle and the warranty-voiding issues associated with it. I know Acura may be a bit different in that category, but getting screwed over to the tune of ~$2000 puts a negative perception of CAI's into my head for good. Plus, I'm not too gung-ho about the sound that many have described the CAI's giving to the motor.
I know the CAI is the popular choice on this forum, but I'm looking to go with something that suits my personal preferences and qualms.

K-Shawn - whaddup! You get some new wheels (starts with a 3) yet? Or you still a card-carrying TL member in the Bricks & Boogie-Down Bronx?
