2005 TL w/ Navi - a deal?
Hi guys, been lurking for awhile and have come across what may be a good deal. Dealership has an 05 SSM w/ Navi, 43K miles for $22,750 (lowest they'll go). Original asking price was $27,998. To me, this sounds like a pretty good deal - I'm going to test drive tomorrow.
However, I was originally going to look at purchasing a TL after the release of the 09's (sometime around November), assuming that the 3G TL prices would come down a bit after the 09 is released. The salesman said that they probably won't come down very much even when 09 is released with the economy of the 3G and rising gas prices.
I guess I'm just wondering what you guys think. I don't want to buy the car at 22,750 and then go upside down on it in a few months when 09's come out. But if 22,750 is a good price, then I'm not too worried about it.
Just trying to see if I should wait it out, but its so hard to be patient when you've been drooling over TL's for over a year!
p.s. its not CPO since its not being sold at an Acura dealership, and only comes w/ factory 50k warranty

Too me thats not that great of a deal. Here in NYC you can get a CPO for that price somewhat easily. Here is one dealer that gets great reviews in my area.
All their prices online you can easily knock off $1k from it. And on there i see a Gray 05 TL with 48k for $20,000.

Is that including TTL? If no, then thats not a good deal at all! My dealer offered me $22.8K out the door for an 05 NBP ~50Kmiles. I walked out.
AND no warranty!! Be patient and keep looking
EDIT:
I'm looking at buying a TL I saw from a private seller this Friday. $21K for 05 NBP 5AT Navi 50Kmi w/ extended warranty (7yr/100Kmi bumper to bumper and powertrain). This was a CPO vehicle as well. It comes with some nice additions too ie. TL-S tails, interior lights swapped out with white LEDs, chrome dipped TL stock rims. I'd probably have to pay $1K for taxes.

Nah, shop around there are some great deals. I recently bought an 06 with nav, one owner and very well kept TL for a little over 17k , of course I turned around and spent 2k for the a spec kit and wheels but lets not go there . Try Craigslist, Ebay, cars.com and autotrader.com although I hate both of the later due to the fact that there is barely any private owner that posts there any more, most of the cars that I looked at were dealer listed.

Thanks all for the replies - I guess I just need to be patient . Most 05's w/ navi around this area (Portland, OR) are going for more than that it looks like - but we'll see what happens when the 09 comes out.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know how the release of the 09 TSX or MDX has affected used pricing of those models, now that they are the old bodystyle?
Thanks again

everytime a new bodystyle drops the value of ours plummet....so the old tsx should be pennies and when the new tl drops the old will be pennies too......my friend was leasing a benz c class from 05 and his lease was up in april.....they called him and asked if he wants to continue the lease or get the new one.....when he said continue they made a lease adjustment from 500 a month to 238 a month.

I just bought a 2005 w/ Navi and 40k miles for $20,000...she wanted $22,500 but went down for me! We are both military, so she hooked me up a bit....but she had it on Craigslist for $22,500 OBO!!
With the economy slipping and spending down....there is no reason why you should not get a good deal!

2005 NBP TL 5AT w/ NAV
Hi all. First post
I've been lurking around the board for about 3 months while contemplating the purchase of my TL and I finally pulled the trigger memorial day weekend. When I saw your thread I figured I'd chime in with my buyer experience so others can gain from it.
What I purchased:
Black 2005 Acura TL w/ NAV
46,500 Miles
On the road (includes taxes, title, tag, dealer fees, etc..) for $22,500.
The wholesale price on the invoice was about $20,250.
I think the actual price I ended up paying was around $20,750 (before all other fees, taxes)
There were some extras involved though:
1) The previous driver had scuffed every rim on the car, so I had them resurface that as part of the deal. They look brand new now.
2) I made them give me one of those Acura License plates (instead of one with their store name on it). Not so significant, but you'd be surprised at what little extras you can get if you negotiate into your deal if you happen to purchase from a dealership.
3) They had new tires on the front and poor rear tires, so they replaced those as well.
4) Lastly, I negotiated 2 free car washes a month for the life of the vehicle ... black gets really dirty very quickly.
It may have helped that I will be servicing the car at the dealership as well; although, I think each unit of a dealership operates independently. All in all, I think I got a decent deal. I have a feeling that the guy would have dropped the price by another $250 - $500. But there's no sense in thinking about the hypothetical now though
Another point I should make is, the argument that the 09 TLs will have a new body style didn't work that great for me and actually slowed negotiations down.
Edmunds.com was a great resource for me because of their TrueValue calculator. I highly suggest you check it out and then try to use it as a starting point for your negotiations.

Thanks Mode, for your sharing your experience. I checked out the Edmunds.com calculator and it game me a dealership retail price of around $22,732 (true value) and I've got the dealership down to $22,888. It's so hard for me to come to a decision because it looks like a good deal compared to all the other TL's with navi around here, but a lot of the guys here on the forum seem like they get some pretty good deals. Honestly, I want to buy it just so I can stop thinking about it - I've wanted one for so long!
However, if it's going to drop significantly with the release of the 09's in the fall, I might as well wait
Thanks to all for your advice as well
