2005 G35 uping the ante....

According to autospies.com the G35 is getting more horses and more torque
and a re-designed interior. The TL IMO interior is still much more elegant and plush but with the re-designed dash and the extra power (+, need I say it, yes, rwd) the 2005 TL better get SH-AWD if it wants to be able to compete. I was pretty much going the TL but now the 05 G35 might get might vote...

The only change that I liked for the 2005 Altima...err G35 was the omission of the tape deck (I wish Acura would get wise to this!!).

BTW the new exterior redisign for the sedan looks HORRID!!! The new curves make it look really really bad. In my opinion it truly looks like an Altima now!

05 G35 information has already been released by Nissan, don't go to Autospies anymore for it.

The coupe is nice now. Would beat a Z in a race most likely. I would still probably take a Z over it, dunno though. The Z definitely wins in styling, but the G35c now has a reason for buying it with more horsepower than the Z and a backseat that could be used of absolutely necessary.

I have to agree and say I greatly dislike the tape deck in the TL... why would a car that comes with some rather advanced toys (Bluetooth, DVDA, etc) still have a tape deck??? I realize the TL is likely geared for an "older" market (Largely due to income only) , but CDs pretty much replaced tapes as the dominant media a good 14 years ago!

I can guarantee you that when I finally get rid of the TL, the tape deck will still be untouched!

The backseat is useless. It's really the main reason why I didn't buy one -- that and the cheap interior. I'm only 5'8" and I can't sit up straight in the rear of the G35c.

Since you seem to care what I think
Grab that new G35 jimbo...
...and there will be one less TL on the road!

Wouldn't they also up the power in the Z as well? The improvements to the G35's interior are fairly significant, but still not enough to make me want to buy one.

Still a Use for Cassette

There's still a use for cassettes. Most "talking books" are on cassette. When I take a long car trip, I sometimes check out a couple of talking books from the local library.

Herm, never really thought of that I guess, but I was looking at it from more of a music perspective. Since CDs are more durable, I kinda would have thought "talking books" would have moved over as well... you learn something new every day

Personally, even with that being said, I think a tape deck at this point should be a lot like MP3 players, mini-disc players etc... if you want it, it is an option to be added. Just my opinion though. I guess when it comes down to it everyone has different needs and you cant please everyone.

How exactly is the backseat useless. I'm 5'9" and i can sit up straight perfectly in the backseats. How about you try sitting in one before you make a false comment like that

They are better than the TL cuz you can actually tune the radio up and down the radio stations. In the TL, it only goes up

One use for the tape deck is to use extra stuff like MP3 players or MD's since there's no extra input for them, u know if u buy one of those CD car kits that plug your cd player into the tape deck.

True, but given the choice I would much prefer to have a direct input for these types of things. If they left an open input MANY people (especially those with IPODS) would be very very happy! If they were to go the way of BMW the tapedeck would be a zero cost option that could be added for those 12 people who still use tapes (I personally have not used a tape since the late 1980's). Why would the TSX offer an integrated MP3 player and the TL not offer this!? A lower priced model should NEVER offer options that are not avaible on more expensive models. It truly comes down to consistency in the product line, which at this point is getting better, but is not where it needs to be.

(steps off soapbox)

Well said! The Edmunds review of the TL says that the designers made a conscious decision not to include MP3 support because the sound quality wouldn't do the 5.1 sound justice. They're basically saying the sound system is too good for MP3s. But then they go ahead and put in a tape deck. Talk about hypocrisy!

Future TLs should include MP3 support and have an input jack. As for the tape deck? Well, it's just like floppy drives on computers: 1) It doesn't look too terrible, so I don't really mind. 2) I will likely never use it. 3) It's kinda nice to know it's there.

Isn't XM compressed to about the same degree as MP3?
