2005-2006 Purchase/Pricing Help

I'm highly considering a used TL right now since I was going to buy a new Honda Accord. The 2005-2006 models could be had around the 20k +/- price points. I have never purchased a used car before. I have some questions.

1. How important is it to have an Acura certified pre-owned on these vehicles?

2. What is a respectable price for these vehicles with 30-45k on them? Automatic transmission and no navigation.

I will most likely be buying from a dealership. Thanks.

I would get the 06 certified because you can get an additional warranty. I am on the same boat and I have noticed that 05 and 06 models cost almost the same. I don't know why. I am also wondering how much cheaper these would get once 2010 models come out soon.

Getting an Acura certified used car defiantly gives you piece of mind. It goes through an inspection, you get new mats, and fluids are changed that need to be as well as other items that don’t pass inspection. However you are going to pay more, initially at least. Another nice thing about the certified vehicle is that as stated you can get an additional warranty. It comes with a 7yr. (from initial date of purchase)/100,000mi (total) power train and a 1yr./12,000mi.(from the date you buy it used) bumper to bumper warranty. However, you can upgrade to a 7yr./100,000mi. bumper to bumper warranty for around $1500-$2000 more, well worth it if you ask me. If you find a deal on and uncertified car you just can’t ignore; try to have a mechanic check it out if possible before the buy. Or at least take it to be inspected by an acura dealer shortly after your purchase, and while you’re there you can pick up an extended warranty so long as the factor warranty is still in effect. I would not buy if the factory warranty was no longer in effect. (check my numbers on Acura’s website)
My girlfriend bought a certified 06 with around 35,000mi., with navi., auto in May 09. After tag, taxes, and the additional bumper to bumper warranty she paid $26,000. Keep in mind this price includes everything.
I bought an uncertified 05 with around 36,000mi., no navi., manual in Sept. 08. I paid $19,000, plus $2000 for and extended warranty, plus I believe around $800-$1000 for tax and tag, plus around $600 for new tires (my girlfriends car came with new tires), plus around $400-$450 dollars for 2 new brake pads and an inspection from and Acura dealer.
Hope this information is helpful.
I really love my TL, it’s a great car, and I have no regrets buying it; same for my girlfriend. Plenty of power, smooth engine, great shifter in the manual (6sp too!!)(no problems with my girlfriends auto either, just not as fun haha! and lacking that extra gear), comfy leather seats heated and with memory, and good gas mileage for its class. The sunglass holder in the door map pocket rattled, but it was an easy fix with some insulating. I do wish the back seats folded down too.
Good luck hunting!!
