2004 vs rice rocket
My friend who is a mechanic is really into cars was debating me about the TL.
He says that for the value of a TL, I could buy a Honda Civic. With the civic, I can place a better stereo system in the car than the TL. I can place leather in the car than the TL. Put better rims on the TL. Also, add in ground effects which would make the civic look beter than the TL. i.e. spoiler, neon lights on the bottom, tinted windows, huge can on the back in for the exhaust. Also, upgrade the engine to give it more horsepower than the TL. For 35k, a souped up civic is better than the TL. What do you all think of this?

Bears Rule!(Well, kinda')
Why get a Civic when you can do the same with a Kia?
It's a self-defeating argument. Apples and oranges. No matter how much you polish a turd, it's still a turd. (Not that the Civic is a turd, but in no way shape or form is it in the same class as the TL, mods and all...)

And driving it, it would still feel like a civic. Theres a significant difference in the feel of some civics/camrys. So even if you put 35K into it, your still driving a cheap economy car.

CIVIC HAHAHA
think of it this way...
when you drive a TL...people don't kind of scoff at you and go "wannabe ricer"
I've yet to look at a riced up civic without thinking that.
Why don't you get a Civic with a spring suspension system and lower it too? That way you can speed across the highway and bounce haha
Not making fun of you or anything man just that yeah...it's a civic

Well, being in a TL forum, you know what you're going to get. But, as a fully satisfied and proud TL owner I can still tell you that if you really enjoy modding your car and tinkering with it, maybe a Civic is a better way to go. You will save money and a performance enhanced Civic will likely beat someone like me who has for the most part only made aesthetic changes thus far. I personally think you will also choose to buy a TL because you know all that extra money is getting you far more that your friend can write on paper and you just wrote this post to incite people into a frenzy!

you can dress a pig up but it's still a pig. i can't believe that people still think "hooking" up a civic is cool. almost everyone i know laughs at every single hooked up civic that drives down the road. its just so absurd.

I always use the absolute reverse logic. Why throw tons of money into a slow/non-sporting/non-luxury car when for the same money you can buy something that's fast, sporting, and luxurious? E.G. Why buy a Civic and put $30k into it when you can buy an M3?

To each is own. Of course you can make it faster, better inside and such.. but what will you do when you have to resell it? It will still be a civic on the outside. It all depends on what you want and what your tastes are. TL is about luxury and class..

Can you add the traction control, brembo's, Navi, and LS for that price as well? WOW! I think I might just have to sell my slow little TL for a Civic now. Tell your friend to go buy a TL and he'll see what we all mean.

I cant believe this is even a discussion. The Civic is a great car for what it is. But unless you want super gas mileage or the ability to park in tight spots (i.e.: NYC) why bother. The only Civic I like is the current Hybrid (for the MPG) and the 99-00 Si but, neither are TL replacements. And NOTHING can make a Civic look better than a TL.
I like modding as much as the next guy but, unloading $35G for a Civic (purchase + mods) is silly unless you're racing in NIRA for a living.
Peace.

I'd get both!
Hey folks, lighten up! The Civic is a fine automobile, not a turd or a pig!
Full disclosure: I drive a ten-year-old Integra, and it's certainly loud and a bit rude compared to the TL, but with a few suspension modifications it feels like a slot car on a curvy road. It's also got a hatch that swallows bicycles, skis, and mirrors etc. far better than the TL. Make no mistake, I love the TL engine's torque and refined technology, but the sports car tradition is arguably more alive in Civics and other lighter cars. (Extreme case: the new Lotus Elise, at 1950 pounds, 500 less than a Miata.)
Another smart reason to choose a TL is safety, methinks. Dodging Excursions and Hummers in a Civic (or Elise) is probably considerably more dangerous than cruising the interstate in a TL. But on a twisty road (or going to Home Depot)? Less of a clear case, to say the least! When our Integra dies, we'll certainly look at the Civic Si, even with the funny shifter in the dashboard...

Well, let's look at the orig post a part of which states, "For 35k, a souped up civic is better than the TL." So off the bat it's an 'or' not an 'and' proposition, posed to tvo. In light of that, the choice is pretty obvious to me.
BTW, this is not unlike someone saying, "why buy a C5 when you can buy a Cavalier and hook it up."

Also, dont forget the huge loss in value with those aftermarket parts after they are installed. a 35K Civic will go for far less money when you looking to offload it than the TL. No one will give you 1000 dollars for X-brand bad ass exhaust after you installed it.

I wonder if the OP is even still on Acurazine or whether he went with the Civic, 5 yrs later? Anyways, a "souped" up Civic would appeal to an 16-21 year old.
