2004 TL Type-S?

I brought my new TL in for service today, and the service manager said there's a new TL type-S hitting their showroom floor in February. The only thing he knew was that it has 330 hp, and going for around low 40's. Some of their sales guys in SF have already driven it... Is this only a rumor, has anyone else heard the same?

If it's really true, maybe I pulled the trigger too soon...

I would be very surprised if this were true. Seems like if Honda were going to release a type S it wouldn't be until '05.

This better be a rumor. I asked my sales people at least 100 times before I made the decission. This will piss me off.

Yeah. I thought I had problems before. If this is true, the men in the white coats will have to come get me!

VERY and i mean VERY doubtful. Your service manager is talking out of his a$s. If anything a type S would come in 2005 as the 2006 model. Not this soon

Rumor or not, the smart sales person will sell what he has. I've found that most car salesmen don't "officially" know anything about next year's (or next month's) models until they have one to put me in.

In my experience, the people who work at the dealerships are the last to know. No way a Type S is coming this soon, and I still think all the reports that no Type S is planned seem the most credible to me.

Not being familiar with Acura (or the TL line) until recently, what did Acura do in the past? Was there a Type S for the first model year of the First & Second Gen TLs?

My thoughts are that they've squeezed almost everything possible out of their 3.2 L V6 engine without turbos / suprchargers / whatever. Do you think that Acura can really get another 50+ HP out this engine?

Realistically, I think your only going to see the A-Spec after this. Maybe a 10 - 30 HP improvement over time, maybe AWD, and maybe improve the weight distribution.

Maybe that's why they removed the "3.2" from the car's name - in preparation for the next line-up.

Mabye none of the above.

I seriously doubt it.

Enjoy your new TL and don't worry about the rumor.

Come one guys. How many have you have walked into a dealership and told THEM what is in the works? I know I have. They are usually kept in the dark until the last minute for obvious reasons. So they can sell what they have today and not be tempted to leak information. We all know that we will read about here before the dealerships know anything. Now, if you talked to someone at the factory or in engineering, that is different. They would be trustworthy. Not a service manager.

If it is really true, then I'm glad I've put off ordering my 6MT Navi till February!

I don't think the TL needs anything to boost sales like releasing special editions, etc. There might be type S in the future, but I don't see it until late '05 at the earliest.

Just my .02.

The TL in the low to mid 30s is a great car. The TL in the low 40s is an also-ran. Repeat after me: FWD does not belong in serious performance sedans, especially if priced in the $40K range.
