2004 TL Gas Mileage

Hello!

Just joined this forum today. Hoping I can get some help from fellow members.

I just purchased a 2004 TL (31, XXX miles)...live in Minneapolis and am averaging about 17 MPG in all city driving (work is about 7 miles one way)...have tried regular and premium gas...no improvement.

Have been told that cold weather, all city driving etc is the culprit. Saw some messages around K&N Air Filter being a good solution...

Can anyone please help as to what I can do here???

My TL is a 6 speed...

Many thanks in advance!

Cheers!

That's not bad for winter in-town driving. Stop-and-go traffic, cold weather, and winter-blend fuel all contribute to poor efficiency. By the way, many of us believe that K&N filters only hasten engine demise due to a greater intake of particulate matter. It is your choice, however. Do some more searching. Cheers.

That is about the mileage I'm getting in the short trips I do in this cold northern Ohio winter. It should improve a bit when the warmer weather gets here and the gas is reformulated from winter blend to summer blend.

Thanks for the responses to Paul R and Repecat...will just have to sit tight till warmer weather.

By the way, do you recommend changing tires @ 31K...have been reading a lot about tires too!

Ok, then this is not going to make you feel any better. My '04 manual averages in the mid 24's in the winter in city driving (not something like New York, mind you but small city and suburbs).

Do all of you get the low fuel light on with about 3-4 gallons left to go? Mine comes on with about 4 gallons still left to go....

Yes; it's set up that way by Acura.
The TL's city/stop-and-go mileage is not good, esp. with winter gas formula- 17-21 MPG is about normal. Mileage may improve if you can avoid stop-and-go traffic by using larger boulevards, streets with timed lights or country roads.
Oh, and welcome to the site.
