2004 TL Explanation for Many Problems?!?

I swear this is true.

I was driving my TL, minding my own business, when suddenly these tiny pinkish worms started crawling down from the headliner into the passenger compartment.

Pretty soon they were everywhere! All over the windshield, in my hair, in the glove box! I had to pull over and have the car towed to Acura!

I am certain these worms are somehow getting into the car during assembly in Ohio, an area well-known for worms. They are probably in the larvae stage at that point. Then they hatch and cause all kinds of trouble!

Think about it - drooping headliners, rattles, vibrations - these can all be explained by the worms crawling around in hidden places in the car! Why they became visible in mine I have no idea, but I believe all or most of you will also experience this terrible problem very soon!

I told the dealer this is obviously going to be a widespread problem even though no one else has reported it before. But you know what, by the time the car got into the service bay, the worms had all receded into their hiding places and the dealer COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM!!!

I'm calling a lawyer! Damn I should I have bought the Chrysler 300C! That's a company you know you can trust to deliver a product 100% free of insect infestations!

Acura you suck!

Sorry to hear that. That would freak anyone out. The dealer should tear apart the upper area to investigate. There shouldn't be many areas they can hide.

Did you go throught winter before this happened?

Didn't you buy a car at Turnersville? Now, you got me all freaked out. I hope you get a new car. If they don't get you a new one, I would go and talk to NBC's Dateline.

Wait a min. I lived in Baltmore for 5 years. Have you left your sunroof opened overnight or something?

No matter what, this truly sucks.

Cool Rx:

Double up on the Prozac; switch to decaf!

Pink worms, you say? Do you have a Camel interior?

I don't have the problem. I have GEICO and the lizard ate them.

When my insurance bill came, he also put the BIG bite on me.

I vote that this is the weirdest post by TLGator EVER. I'm not sure if the TL has the problem, or if its the driver...but its def better than reading threads about memory seats and rattles... ugghhhh

Yikes!

I didn't realize this would be taken seriously. I didn't put in any smileys b/c I thought it was so obviously a joke. Especially since I included the part at the end about buying a Chrysler instead.

My sincere thanks to those who expressed concern, and my apologies if you feel abused. Had I known it might come across real, I would have put in a bunch of smileys or something.

:toothless

But c'mon, little pink worms? As an explanation for rattles and vibrations? How could you take it seriously? It was intended as parody, sarcasm, satire, a spoof. Like the other thread comparing the TL to a horse and buggy. Starting off with "I swear this is true" was actually intended to make it sound that much more obviously phony. I guess it backfired.

Why did I do it? Out of frustration. There's so much absurdly slanted negative commentary on this forum about our wonderful - if not perfect - vehicle, and the latest stuff about tranny problems just had me shaking my head.

Sure the TL could turn out to have a transmission issue. There might even be a recall. But c'mon, this is still a great car, a great value for the money. They've sold something like 40k of them already, and many users on this board have had their cars for months with no tranny issues.

Well, there is that bit about the notchy stick, and a few early 6MT's did have an issue popping out of gear. But complete failure of the tranny while driving? Having to be towed to the dealer, and then all of a sudden the car works fine again? Posted by a user who had never registered for this forum until now? Call me skeptical.

For all I know the story is 100% legit, but let's face it - anyone can register here, claim to have a TL, and say whatever they want. Even those of us who have gotten to "know" each other on the board for a few months now have no idea who everyone really is. But I think if one of the moderators, or someone like, just for example, rets or Ron A or someone like that, posted something about a tranny problem, I'd believe it and be concerned for them. But random people pop in here all the time now saying the sky (or headliner) is falling, their trannies are blowing up, the car sucks, etc. I just thought I'd mock the whole negative posting trend with the worm story.

Again, sorry if I misled anyone. Thanks for everyone's replies.

Just remember my name, I ask a lot of questions because I want to know as much as I can about the car that I want to buy in the fall, for the 2005' model year.

Did you ever get attached to a car ? I have an extremely mint and as perfect as can be, a garage kept 95 Maxima. In the almost 10 years I bought the car new. It been a perfect car. My old partner is chomping at the bit to buy it.
And he will. I have people think that it is a new car ! When I tell them it was built in Japan in March of 94'. They don't believe me.

I guess I'm spoiled, I just want a car that causes be no headaches. When I see Acura take shortcuts, it puts doubt in your mind.

To witt: Crap tires on a premium car, yet Michelen's on Honda Accords.
Better leather seats in a Honda Accord
Gas cap holder on Civics but not on a top of the line Acura.
Need I say more ?

What are they thinking ??????????

I wish everyone a headache free car, I belive most people on this board are telling the truth about their cars. Some fairy tails are expexted, but all in all
they are concerned about their investment. After all, the price of this car is more then I paid for my "starter home" in 1979.

Aww Gator...why ruin the joke so soon, I was expecting this thread to become the most popular with people asking what type of worms, whether they are edible, and such...

Either way, thanks for the laugh...btw, do you have the 6mt? Just curious...

fish, Nick - thxs

cyp, PeterU - I'm SINCERELY not trying to mock or stifle legitimate concerns about this car. And you're both right, there are concerns. The quality overall does not seem up to Acura's prior standard. I think they tried very hard to squeeze as much stuff into the TL without pushing the price into the $40s where a lot of people would have just shrugged and bought a Bimmer instead. To keep the price down they skimped in a few places, some of those places not wisely chosen. But Honda/Acura is all about value for the dollar. If you really, really, really want a bulletproof car you should buy a Toyota or Lexus. And by the way, I have had TWO prior Honda/Acura products (Civic and CL) and no significant issues with either one.

Pooch - xp42 was calling my bluff, I felt guilty

All - great comments, thanks. Love the stuff about LSD and detox. The inspiration was not booze or drugs but rather Pink Floyd. I recently listened to the "The Wall" and was reminded of the "worms" that "ate into his brain."

Belated smileys: :toothless

We don't need no tire vibration
We don't need no seat control
No instant mileage on the MID screen
Hey, dealer, leave those rims alone!

I'll leave it to the rest of you to complete.

cypwood1.....don't fret.

Sometimes everything falls into allignment and you get that perfect car...like yours. But I am sure there are people on similar boards (or in the past) who complained about the same year/model you think is wonderful. Some of it is luck of the draw. Was someone having a bad day on the line that day, etc. You have to look for overall trends. And there is no denying that safety ratings, consumer ratings and editors ratings are all top of the line for the TL....what more could you ask for right.

Of course I am biassed too (just like everyone else on this board) because I just plunked down my deposit and am awaiting my car to be delivered next week. But seriously, the reviews are great...

I have used Consumer Reports for 40 years, as my bible ( they made us subscribe to it in Catholic Grammar School. Plus I get the Insurance Institutes updates. The initial reprts are very positive. The Ideal year is to wait to the 2006' model. However, I could be dead and buried by then. I am going to be watching for the next 5-6 months and see how Acura Handles the complaints.

I've seen Consumers pull their #1 recommended selections over the years, for reliability reasons.

The Ford Focus
The BNW 3 series;
The Ford Windstar.

I'd like to see everyone happy with their new TL's. There is strength in numbers and all of us has a common goal. A car that reliable and problem free.
Remember, there is strength in numbers. if we all stick together, I think that we would do much better.

I value your opinion,
Cypwood,
Don

Don,

I am sure everyone is tired of hearing this, but...

I bought a new 1990 Maxima in 1990 and recently sold it after 14 years of trouble-free ownership. It was garage kept and had 99,000 miles. It was Sand Pebble Beige with a cranberry velour cloth interior. It was just as shiny and pristine when I sold it as the day I bought it. In fact, I took about 5 minute of walk-around video on Halloween, the day I detailed it and delivered it to the purchaser, my best friend's 17 year old daughter, for $4,000. It didn't even have a door ding on it. And, this being Florida, it has never seen snow or salt or cold weather.

The only money I spent on it besides oil/filter changes and the timing belt at 60,000 was for tires, batteries, and wiper blades (3 sets of each).

Like you, when I put my deposit down on a new TL, and, after reading Consumer Reports who named it their number one pick for a mid-size luxury car, I expect it to be AT LEAST as good a car as my old Maxima if not better.

Page 2 of the story: Six weeks after the 17 year old bought my Max, she rear-ended a vehicle at noon on a Saturday and totalled my baby.

She was not hurt- which is a good thing. Because now I'm gonna kill her! :rocketwho

I think all we are looking for is a reliable ( like the Max ) and trouble free car.
I don't think that's a lot to ask !

I think the TL almost certainly will be a reliable and trouble-free car.

It has been said ad nauseum but evidently bears repeating - this forum, with perhaps a few hundred active members, represents but a tiny fraction of '04 TL owners, and perhaps the nit-pickiest fraction. And yet, even the majority of us don't have any SERIOUS issues with the car. The few that do - yes it sucks for them and we all hope their problems are solved.

But this forum has insanely, absurdly, obscenely magnified the issues to the point that many "lurkers" have decided the car is a piece of junk. Not only is it NOT a piece of junk, it's a thing of beauty!

Just my 2,000 cents worth.

I want to be a "Believer" I'm 99% sure that I will be ordering a 2005' in the fall. Plus, I have one of my old partners that wants my Maxima really bad.

Now all you have to do is post this on another board ..... have it emailed to half the people on the internet and you'll have a new Urban Legend born!

I'll let you know if I ever get it sent to me in email. Always getting crap like that from some gulible friend of mine.

I'm sure I could post it on a G35 forum and half the people would go, "Aha! I knew there was a good reason I didn't buy that TL! Such a superior car to ours in every way...except, you have to deal with...the worms..."
