2004 5AT manual swap
I’m thinking I should just swap a manual transmission in my 04 TL since I want a 6 speed... what is the best / reliable way to do the swap, should I do a 2003-2007 accord trans or a 3rd gen manual trans? Also what else would I need to complete the swap? Ecu, CV axles, wiring harness etc....?

The above isn't to say the swap is impossible, nothing like this is impossible if you have enough money, but the 3G TL is a very integrated car and the swap involves far more than just the transmission, axles, front suspension and brakes, and clutch and shift linkages. I suggest you spend some time researching previous attempted 6MT swaps on this site; if the failed/partially successful swaps don't dissuade you from this course of action, you will be far better informed on how to proceed.
Long story short, a swap will most likely cost you several thousand dollars; possibly as high as five-grand (depending upon how much of the work you're able to do yourself), and yet a fully functioning factory 6MT model, complete with the upgraded brakes, suspension, steering, and integrated electronics should only cost you two thousand over what you can sell your car for.

You just told me the difference between an accord trans and TL trans. I knew the dumbasses with the “better off buying a manual” and “this agin” would show up. Waiting for some real advice.

the swap is hard. so fucking hard that some mechanics have ROYALLY screwed this shit up. there's lots of cutting involved, MAYBE, maybe some custom fabricating going on..
there is this famous thread about a guy trying to sell his fucked up auto2manual swapped TL. Ended very badly for that member as he was trying to pass off a broken car as a good working car, but the pictures told the story of the hacked manual swapped TL.
if mechanics can't even get it right, how confident are you?
as horseshoes mentioned; you'll quickly go over budget and spend close to $5k or more...when you can have a 6MT TL for $3-5k.

Nah, I say go for it. Hunt down all the parts, which is going to be a pain in the a$$ since finding TL 6MT's in scrap yards is going to be a mighty chore. Then rip out the automatic transmission which of course involves removing all the axles (lots of suspension work). You'll also need to remove all of the shifting mechanisms and associated linkage. Then reinstall with the 6MT which should be as much fun as taking the auto out, especially if you don't have a vehicle lift and are working on this using jackstands (that would be hell.....) and attempting to lift the transmission into place using a jack. Then hope the 6MT is in good condition; that the synchros are all good and gears aren't excessively worn. Probably replace the clutch as well while you're at it which isn't cheap. Oh, and you'll need the 6MT ECU, which is only like, $700 or so. You'll likely need to flash it or have the dealer do some work on it as well. Not sure on that but it should be a lot of fun. Then start 'er up and hope for the best. Chances are there will be hours of troubleshooting and little issues here and there that may never be resolved.
Way easier than spending the bit of cash difference between a stock 6MT and the time test driving a few to see what you want.
