2004-2005 Acura TL gas
I am looking to buy a TL soon, probably a 2004 or 2005 model. But before I buy I want to know about how this car is on fuel with fuel here in van reaching 1.50.
I have heard people say it is really bad and sometimes people say its pretty good. So just wondering if you guys just give me some replys of how your cars are on gas. I really want this car because its such a nice looking car, but don't want it to be bad on gas.
Right now I do mostly highway driving and will mostly only be doing this. Not much traffice driving in the city. Drivng a jetta right and that thing is brutal on the highway but good for city which I rarely do. Also sometimes drive a chrysler 300 which is good on the highway, but looking to get my own car now.
So how is the TL on the highway, and city and how many kilometers do you get per full tank?? Thanks.

Idk about km but city/rural driving I get 22-24mpg, depends on how fast I accelerate. Highway I've seen multiple people get close to 30 or 30 and above.
I think you'd be very happy with it, it makes great mileage for being a powerful V6.
If you're that worried, I'd look into the TSX, it's a 4 cylinder.

I'm in the Washington state area where Supreme gas is 4.49 a gallon. Today I spent 60 dollars and it got about 7/8's full. If you are concerned about the fuel cost, I would recommend another car, as maintenance stuff can cost well over 100 dollars if you pay someone to do it.
But like I said I mostly do highway driving and I've read a lot people saying its pretty good on the highway some saying up to 600km. So if its good for the highway that is good news for me. I will also be filling up in Washington often, as a lot of people from here do that.

Welcome cmpunk! This car is great on the highways. City driving, on the other hand...i get about 10-11 L/100 km. --> and that's driving like a grandma.
I actually just finished a drive from vancouver to LA, and it was 6 L/100 km...i went to about 500 km and i still had 1/4 tank left (and the MID was telling me that i could still go for about 260 km til empty).
I always gas up at blaine (by the border), i'm 15 kms away from it...and this is the way i save on gas...i save about 20 CDN...and that was when the gas was $1.45 per litre. I say go for it...this car is awesome, and it's been in LA and back 5 times now

Another one of these threads, really? Here, let me hurry up and get to the conclusion:
What kind of mileage does the TL get?
Mine gets great mileage.
Mine gets shitty mileage.
Mine gets 28mpg in the city.
Mine gets 13mpg in the city.
Mine gets 30mpg on the freeway.
Mine gets 39mpg on the freeway for 5 miles after resetting the MID and driving downhill.
No it doesn't.
I get 200 miles per tank.
I get 500 miles per tank.
The MID is inaccurate.
The MID is very accurate.
"City" doesn't mean anything, average mph means everything.
Average mpg will follow average mph, mph has the biggest single influence.
Several people compare mph vs mpg.
End of thread.

Yeah so by what everyone saying its good for the highway and thats what I do most, not too much city traffic drivng with constant stopping and going. Also not like I'm driving everyday somewhere far, just like going to the store and things like that, so seems like a good car.

On the highway, you should easily expect 28-30 mpg at 70 mph. At 100 kph (62 mph), you could easily get over 30 mpg.
For city driving, it's much harder to put a figure on mpg. It's greatly dependent on individual driving styles and the degree of stop and go traffic. You could get anywhere from 16 - 24 mpg in city driving.
The tank capacity is 17.1 gallons. The low fuel light comes on with roughly 4.5 gallons remaining. The "distance to empty" on the MID reaches 0 with roughly 3 gallons remaining.

I live in Surrey on highway 10 if you know where that is. SO its not like im driving on the highway for an hour always. But if I want to get to Richmond where i mostly go and Vancouver I would always take the highway and just exit off and im there in about 20 minutes. So thats the highway driving I mostly do. Rarely going into downtown and driving through the traffic.

Thats the reason the mods put the big red search bar in the middle of every page so you wouldn't have the exact same crap posted several times a week. At this point its just laziness so you get responses such as mine. It was actually quite helpful. Instead of going through the usual cycle I saved him the trouble. Mpg equals average mph and it varies wildly. Thats better advice than the typical "my car gets xxx mpg in the city". Look at who responded, none of the regulars but myself.

I thought the search bar and google.com is not working .

I drive easy and get 13mpg in the city. Once again, the reason to compare average mph to mpg and why not to rely on some one elses "city" description.

Yep gas prices are ridiculous in vancouver these days, $1.55 around here, and thats regular, If gas prices are a concern, maybe the TSX would be a better alternative? If you have your heart set on the TL, go for it, considering your doing mostly highway driving. Just make sure you budget for maintenance as well!

13mpg is accurate. My average mph is 11mph many times due to living in a city that times the redlights so that you have to stop for each and every one. My normal drives consist of accelerating to 45mph and coasting to the next light knowing there's no way to make it on green. If I didn't do that, my mileage would probably be even lower. Living in other "normal" cities it's been as high as 26mpg with no freeway miles. That's why the term "city" is useless, only average mph should be used to compare mpg.

What really sucks is we produce a lot of oil around here, used to refine it as well, and I just payed $4.80 a gallon to fill up. Going back home to the Gulf Coast, gas is always a dollar cheaper.
I wish being in the industry I'm in, we would get discounts but we don't and that's not surprising considering most of the price we pay is to the government.
I need to buy a diesel next time and fill it with red diesel, my way of getting back at the government.

I know what the hell happened recently for the price to jump up? Summer time? Crap because I remember a couple months ago I was paying $3.70 for supreme then the whole "Iran is going to put a blockade on the Straight of Hormuz because x, x, and x" incident, which I have yet to see the price decrease...

i put the car away in the summer and drive a vino 125 to work and back uses 1/4 amount of gas that the car does for the same trip

I have only had my 2006 TL for about a month but I can tell you this. I was driving a 4 cyl PT Cruiser before and my TL gets much better gas mileage. I just calculated my last tank full and I got 25.9 mpg and that is a good mix of highway/city driving. I Think this is great considering I now have a much more powerful 6 cyl car that I look forward to driving each day.

Make it so
I honestly don't know why people aren't rioting in the streets about how they are getting absolutely reamed on gas prices right now. There is NO reason for gas prices to be anywhere near where they are right now, seeing as how oil is at $83 a barrel.
Therefore, gas prices should be at $1.97/gallon instead of almost twice that.
Barrel used for petroleum= 42 US gallons
$83= 1 barrel
Therefore...
$83/42= $1.97/gallon
Sure, only ~20 gallons/barrel are made into automobile gasoline, but oil prices include all the byproduct uses like jet fuel, heating oil, etc so that's a moot point.
People's complacency and ignorance pisses me off sometimes.

The 04' TL I purchased for my wife gets a consistent 24mpg with a combination of city and highway driving. It's primarily stop and go city driving. Our gauge is a tad off so when we fill, the MID still shows 100+miles to go, so a fill is usually under 40 and that'll last over a week.
