2004-05 vs 2006-07
1st Gen owner, but sniffing 3rd gen...pardon the laziness.......what happened on Acura dumping to 258 HP on the 06-07 vs 04-05 of 270HP? What gives? Asked my local Acura dealer, what a lame answer....Acura measures SAE, so it looks like they dropped HP...but in reality same engine...TRUE? So what's the score. Thanks fellow TL bros!

ive heard different things from different people ... somebody told me that acura changed the way that they measure thier horsepower ... and therefore the numbers were different from the 04 05 and 06 07base ...
i have also heard it had something to do with torque steer ...
im not sure how accurate either of these are ...

They're right...for 2006 and on...Acura and many other companies (mostly import) we're required to measure HP and TQ at SAE Corrected hp, Mostly because Imports measure BhP, not actual engine hp...Same Motor...i was pissed to find out i went from flossing 275 to 258...i would have bought a G35 if i knew i was gettin shafted in HP

I could believe on torque steer, I read a motortrend review and they mentioned the torque steer on the 04 because of front whel drive. Nevertheless, no matter how you slice it....it is not 270 anymore. But if it is the same identical engine, then maybe the 04-05 were actually 258's! What I would surmize is that to introduce the TL-S @ 286(?) they have to show a delta between the TL and the TL-S....speculation at best. But suck to know that I might be buying a downgraded HP for 07....I am sorry after test driving a G35...my 98 3.2's felling old.....my darling TL is showing age even at 75k only......I feel the need...for speed.....thanks for the feedback...I know somebody out bthere will straighten this out....

You need to do some search in this website.
But to clarify this as briefly as possible - the 3.2 liter motors in 04-07 TL are exactly the same, nothing has changed.
So in conclusion, the motors make the same amount of horsepower and torque, no matter how you look at it and what standard you use to look at it.
So yes, if measured with the new SAE standard, 04-05 motors make 258 HP. OTOH, 06-07 motors make 270 HP if measured by the old SAE standard.
Regarding G35, Nissan still displayed the HP and torque rating based on the old standard when Acura changed it MY 06. So, 3rdGenHybrid, you can't compare them side by side.

The Nissan makes more HP if that's all you are concerned with. Our engine is sweet, theirs a little sweeter imho. I knew that when I bought my TL. Our total package is better for me!
