i wouldn't say you'd dust him. he might take you off the line, but you'll pull on him by 2nd-3rd. they have less hp at the motor, but it depends on the driver also. being that it's a MT and if he's good, he might have a chance.

i would say tl-s all the way if you're comparing hp to hp, but that sometimes says nothing if you can't drive.

HP doesn't win the race ... look at the TQ (torque) numbers. You won't reach any sort of power band until VTEC engages (~5k rpm). The IS has a 2JZ engine (a la Supra ... but not turbo'ed) which is a solid engine. If the guy has a little know-how and a fair bit of change ... he can make his IS300 to a sleeper with a Supra TT engine and will smoke pretty much anything on the road in the price range.

But in most cases, it's a matter of the driver. You could have a Porsche 911 turbo and if you can't shift ... a TL-S will win a race.

My friend has a IS300 5MT stock. He can drive that car like no other. Off the line he launches at around 5000rpm and that car just takes off(thanks to RWD and torque). We have raced many times and he always takes me out of the hole leaving me at his rear bumper by the end of 1st gear but once he hits second gear that is where I start to pull at a nice pace. By the end of my second gear I have made up the ground and am a fender or so ahead and after that it is no contest. 3rd gear I pull very hard on him and leave him pretty bad. I have many cars on him by the middle of 3rd gear. Now from a roll its a whole different ball game. The IS300 (2JZ Engine NON-TURBO) is not known for its top end power. From a roll at any speed in any gear I dust him by a huge margin.

So to answer your question.........yes you should take him. If he is a good driver he will take you off the line but have no fear you will pull on him in 2nd and 3rd. From a roll would be your best bet because there is no contest. Good luck!

You'll most likely beat him. But I gotta say those IS300's are potential beasts! We got some boosted ones up here that just demolish anything on the road. You won't run into those alot because you gotta be ballin' to mod up and boost an IS300 like that. I checked into it before, but that shit is costly.

IMO I think you would take him. I use to have a '01 IS300 turbocharged and boy that thing was quick. I do remember when it was stock, I did take a TL (probably like an '05) and that was the only time I raced an Acura. After being t/c'ed, there was no point in racing 90% of the cars on the road (it'd be too easy).
