2 days post 1 year anniversary and this happens...

I'm on the way to the local store and as I drive down the street just 2 blocks from my driveway some a$$hole runs a stop sign and takes out my passenger side front end. I get out the car and witness him pulling his tag off the car and tossing it in the trunk and drove off. Bastard is lucky I wasn't able to chase his ass down. Seems to be from the neighborhood so I'll be on the look out for sure. Does look like there's any frame damage but I'm no expert. Wondering if this might be a total loss. Any thoughts?

Too hard to tell from just that photo, but it MIGHT be mostly cosmetic. Looks like your axle is broken and probably some suspension bits bent. Why not ask your insurance company instead of us? This should count as a "not at fault" accident, if what you say is true. It shouldn't change your insurance rates.

It looks like the bottom is a bit crumpled... Might be minor frame damage, but like I said, I can't tell. Looks fixable though.

Holy shit! I bet some intense glances were exchanged.

Where do you live that this happens?

Looks totaled.

I'd say sub-frame damage for sure, maybe main hard to tell with side skirt on. Bet under the hood is mangled. Aside from the obvious in the picture. Imagine taking a 2,000+ pound sledge at 25+ MPH and hitting that transaxle, who knows what that did to the transmission, kiltering both the transmission and engine...shudder. Sorry mate.

What was other driver driving? A beater or something nice?

I definitely don't think it's totaled. I guess it depends what the insurance company considers your TL to be worth.

I reported it to the insurance company. Progressive and waiting on them to send out an adjuster. I hope the insurance considers this not at fault as I have witnesses that saw the accident occur.

Yeah it was pretty intense but I couldn't leave my girlfriend behind as she was the one that took the brunt of the hit. Thank god for the air bags. That's what happens when you live in MIAMI. Fucker was driving a retired cab!

It sucks being the victim in a hit and run in a no-fault state. Unless you've been injured pretty badly (or gf) you cant even sue him. If he does get caught, he will be prosecuted by the state, and if they believe your story of him hiding his plate, it makes it a criminal offense.

Don't know what are the requirements in FL but here this would be considered a SDV, which would allow you to receive a full payment of the cars value. It would be easier for you and the insurance company also which would sell the car to a place where they rebuild vehicles. SDV doesnt have to be a total loss, I think if wheel + 2 major parts are to be changed, it will pass.

My gf bought an acura rsx that was sdv, the car came from North Florida. The report said a ciment truck slipped on some ice losing brakes and the bumper, which was very high, took out the trunk, both taillights, back window and broke the anchors on the back seat so that had to be replaced too. It probably cost 2000 to 2500 at the time and the car was worth 12K, we bought it for 4K

Did you report the collision to the police? I know not much will come from it, but at least get a PD report made if you haven't already. Hopefully, they'll find his car and charge him.

Yeah, passenger side airbags deployed from seat and from around the passenger windows.

Called the cops but and filed the report but I'm pretty sure I'm at a loss. I'll be patrolling the area looking for his ass as one of the witnesses says that the guys is a local in the neighborhood.

Dang that sucks. Im sorry for the loss and suffering. Some people are Dbags.

THis is why I have a dashcam...though in this side T-bone case it may not have been able to capture the perp.

Ya this is now a hit and run. The bastard hopefully will get caught and have justice served.

yeah unless you saw the plate number may be hard to come by. But definitely prowl the neighborhood...though I wouldn't be surprised if the car was a beater (retired cab as you say) and the guy is hiding it now in his garage or drove it away or is already up for sale or onto some chop shop.

As I said before, lets hope karma.justice comes to him

Sadly this is how it is today, people can't drive for shit as it is because they simply don't care, then there are those who don't have a license because they never got one or was suspended, or they don't have insurance or vehicle not registered. And because of these dumbshit bags we ALL pay huge insurance premiums. PEOPLE SUCK.

I believe the OP was more worried about his girlfriend in the passenger seat since she was the one on the passenger side that took the hit. I would've done the same if I was ever in that position imo.. Especially if the airbags deployed, my concern would be my girlfriend first, then the other stuff second.

Was this near any business or house? Check if they have cams... If it happened in front of my house, it'd be on camera and backed up on a 12TB drive...
